Chapter 217 I Don't Have a Soulmate

"Please get in the car," Noe said respectfully as he opened the rear door of the car for Nora.
Nora expressed her thanks and then looked at Baldwin.

"Baldwin, I'm going to head out now."

Baldwin glanced at the back seat of the car. Tinted with bulletproof glass, the windows revealed nothing, just a dark void. He returned his gaze to the front, smiling amiably, "All right, see you tomorrow."

He thought Aaron might get out of the car to greet him, but there was no movement from Aaron. It appears as if he wasn't even worth being acknowledged in Aaron's eyes.

Nora got into the car and the vehicle sped off. Baldwin watched as the car became a tiny speck in the distance, his smile subtly faded.

He turned and entered the mansion, striding upstairs. "Mom, how are you feeling?"

Hollis glanced at him, "What are you asking about? My leg or her?"

"I'm asking about your leg," Baldwin said.

Hollis tapped her thigh, her voice heavy with a deep melancholy and resentment, "You know, even if my leg were broken, I wouldn't feel it."

Baldwin reassured her, "Mom, don't lose hope. She can heal you."

Hollis reached out her hand to him, "You're a good son. You've been running around taking care of me for years. I appreciate it."

Baldwin took her hand, "Mom, it's nothing. You struggled to raise me, and I will never forget your love and kindness.

"I've always wanted to find a doctor that could cure your leg. Ever since I heard that Nora was the one who healed Aaron's leg issues, I've been looking for an opportunity to bring her here, to assess your condition.

"Her expertise is renowned. To my knowledge, she's the acclaimed Master healer, Dr. Sun. With her help, I'm confident your leg will recover."

Hollis smiled with relief, caressing his head, "You've grown up. Thinking of getting married, are you? Nora has a nice look about her. What do you think?"

On hearing this, Baldwin felt a small flutter in his heart, "She's quite nice, but it seems her heart might already belong to Aaron."

Mary, who was standing by, snorted, "Such a wonderful girl shouldn't be wasted on Aaron. Baldwin, you should make a move and win her over."

Baldwin's lips quivered, but he hesitated. After a moment, he nodded in agreement, "All right. We’ll see."

Hollis patted his hand, speaking softly, "You know everything about my past and my obsessions. You don't have to worry about anything. I just hope to see you married and start a family in my lifetime, to find the happiness my poor child never had."

Baldwin gripped her hand tighter, "Mom, I understand. But now there's hope for your legs, I wish you could let go of your obsessions and allow me to take care of you for the rest of your life."

Hollis's expression turned cold. "Stop talking about it. That jerk ruined my life and killed my son. I will make sure he feels the same pain I do!" Hollis declared; her voice heavy with unresolved anger.

"But Mom, it's that man who wronged you. His child is innocent," Baldwin tried to reason with her.

"I'm tired. I need to rest," Hollis said, shutting down further conversation.

Mary quickly assisted Hollis to lie down and then signaled for Baldwin to step outside. Baldwin let out a soft sigh and turned to leave.

Elsewhere, Aaron's handsome face was set in a cold and aloof expression, preoccupied with something since Nora got in the car, and he wasn't acknowledging her presence.

Nora blinked, sensing the tension. " Aaron, you busy?" she inquired.

Without lifting his head, Aaron responded, "Not as busy as you."

"I'm not busy though."

"Not busy? Not too busy to answer your phone, are you sure?"

'So, he's upset about that,' Nora thought, understanding his mood. She leaned closer. "Sorry, my phone was on silent mode. I didn't hear you call. Are you mad at me?"

"Yes," he said, stiffly avoiding eye contact.

Nora found his behavior somewhat childish, much like Samantha's. She softened her voice. "Don't be mad. Getting angry is bad for your health."

"Trying to pacify me, huh?" Aaron shot back.

Nora chuckled softly. "Aaron, are you a child? Do I need to coddle you?"

As her words fell away, Aaron's large hand cupped the back of her head, and he kissed her crimson lips without warning.

Caught off guard, Nora let out a muffled cry, fists pounding on his solid chest. 'Aaron, not caring for where they were? There's still someone in the driver's seat!' she thought frantically.

Aware of her discomfort, Noe, the driver, silently pulled down the partition, blocking any curious gazes.

Nora, looking tender and weak in the aftermath of the kiss, couldn't help but feel her body soften. As Aaron's hands continued to explore, she quickly pressed down on them, signaling him to stop.

Both breathing heavily, Nora looked into his dark eyes and pinched his large hand. "You’re not mad with me anymore?"

Aaron stared at her lips, which were still flushed from his kisses, and gave her two more quick pecks before he finally and reluctantly let her go.

"What brought you here?"

When Frederick told him she had left with an actor, Aaron felt a murderous urge.

Thankfully, Frederick clarified later that she had come with Baldwin to visit his sick mother. However, Aaron still needed to hear it from her.

"Didn't Frederick tell you? Baldwin's mother had a fall, and he helped me out today, so I came with him to see how she was doing," Nora explained.

"Baldwin helped you? How did he help you?" Aaron asked, his dark eyes narrowing slightly.

Nora detailed how Baldwin had helped her deal with a difficult situation, how Becky had stayed behind at the set today, and how Baldwin had spoken up for her. As she spoke, Aaron realized it was all a normal exchange of favors.

Aaron studied Nora's beautiful face. "Doesn't Baldwin have any inappropriate thoughts about you?"

Nora was speechless for a moment. "Thomas Baldwin is a popular star. He wouldn't be interested in me."

"You never know. Nora, you don’t realize your charm! I'll have to remind Frederick to keep an eye on you," Aaron silently grumbled to himself.

After a moment of silence, he shifted the conversation. "I met with Suzy, and she won't be coming to Houston anymore," he said.

Nora was surprised. "Why?"

"Because I don't want to see her anymore, to avoid making you angry," Aaron replied.

Nora raised her eyebrow playfully. "Aren't you going to miss her? After all, she was your confidante."

"Nora, let me clarify once again, I have no confidante. If I did, it would only be you!" Aaron interjected and his deep gaze filled with affection.

His handsome face was so charming that it was easy to become lost in it. But at that moment, Nora thought of Hollis.

She sat up straighter, voicing her reflections. "Men's words aren't always reliable. They're willing to give everything when they are interested in a woman, but as soon as that interest fades, they become cold-hearted and abandon the woman. So, if a woman wants to live happily, she should stay away from men."
