Chapter 1008 What a Coincidence
Seeing Ava in such pain and shock, Alexander sighed, "You get it now, don't you? Still think I'm making this up or overreacting?"
Ava stayed quiet.
Alexander pressed on, "You think William went through all this just to mess with me? If I hadn't grabbed his gun, I'd be in serious trouble right now. The video's right there, and you still want to defend him?"
He waited, curious to see how Ava would stand up for William.
Ava closed her eyes, trying to push down the pain and shock. After a long pause, she looked up at Alexander and said, "I'm sorry. I got it wrong. I didn't think it was this bad."
Ava's throat hurt, and she couldn't say more. She thought, 'Turns out I had it all wrong; William really did this. Even then, Alexander didn't kill him. Instead, he tried to find me. He still cares so much. But if he loves me so much, why did we end up like this? Before the divorce, there was Isabella. Now, there's Madison. But looking at this, I did misunderstand Alexander. Even if he goes to the police, I won't stop him.'
Alexander expected Ava to defend William, make excuses, or call it a misunderstanding after seeing the video. But her reaction threw him off.
He was momentarily lost. He had braced himself for heartbreak, but Ava gave him hope again. Only she could make his emotions swing so wildly.
Alexander reached out and gently patted her shoulder. "And now? If I go to the police, will you stop me?" he asked.
Ava wiped her tears and replied, "Alexander, I know William hurt you. I can't ask you to let him go, but right now..."
"What's going on with him now?" Alexander asked.
Ava's hesitant look showed something new was up with William. She explained, "Alexander, a few hours ago, William got a call from back home. Something happened at his company, so he rushed back. Even if you call the police now, they won't catch him."
Alexander's face stiffened. "What did you say? He ran away?"
Ava said, "Something happened at his company, so he went back."
Alexander stood up. "Why now? Isn't it too much of a coincidence? Did he get a tip-off and run out of guilt?"
William wasn't from Stellaria. Once he went back, it would be tough for Stellaria to catch him. He had connections and power back home. As long as he stayed away, they couldn't touch him.
Ava stood up too, her voice urgent. "No, he got a call and left in a hurry. It's a company issue. He's had accidents and amnesia recently, so the shareholders started causing trouble. That's why he went back."
