Chapter 808 The Woman He Loves
Alexander shrugged. "It's fine."
He'd been used to it for ages.
Running a big company without stress? Impossible. He was always tired.
But when Ava was around, he didn't feel it as much.
She was always there when he got home.
Now, coming home felt like stepping into an empty void. Even when he wasn't working, he felt drained.
Physical exhaustion was nothing compared to mental fatigue.
Madison chimed in, "Mr. Mitchell, you're responsible, but you need to balance work and rest. Take care of yourself."
Alexander nodded. "I will."
Madison shifted, looking a bit uneasy.
Alexander asked, "What's up? Feeling unwell again?"
Madison smiled awkwardly, "Been in bed too long. My body feels numb. A walk would be nice."
Alexander said, "I'll get a nurse to walk with you. Where is she?"
"No need." Madison waved. "I gave her the day off. She'll be back tomorrow. She needed some personal time."
Alexander nodded. "Alright, how about I take you for a walk?"
"Really?" Madison was thrilled.
"Of course, if you want to," Alexander replied.
"I do," Madison said excitedly.
She'd been longing for a walk with him.
"Wait a sec. I'll get a wheelchair."
Alexander turned to leave.
"Actually, I don't need a wheelchair," Madison said, "I can walk. My heart's the issue, not my legs. Walking is good for me."
"Really?" Alexander looked worried.
Madison got out of bed and walked a few steps, "See, I'm fine. The doctor said it's okay."
"Alright then," Alexander said, "Grab a coat; it's chilly outside."
"A coat?" Madison frowned. "I don't have one."
She'd changed into a hospital gown and didn't have her clothes with her.
Alexander sighed, "Sorry, I didn't think of that."
He took off his suit jacket and handed it to her.
"Here, wear this."
He wasn't worried about the cold.
Madison said, "But you'll be cold."
Alexander replied, "I won't be. Take it, or we're not going out."
"Alright then." Madison took the jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
It was big and warm, with a faint pleasant scent.
It felt like a hug from him, very comforting.
She looked up at Alexander, a hint of shyness in her eyes.
Alexander avoided her gaze. "Let's go."
They walked to a small park next to the hospital.
There were quite a few people strolling around.
A gust of wind blew, and Madison felt a bit cold. She wrapped the jacket tighter.
She glanced at Alexander beside her.
"Are you cold?" she asked.
Alexander, hands in his pockets, stared ahead. "Don't worry about me."
Feeling his distance, Madison felt uneasy.
She wondered, 'Does he hate me?'
She gathered her courage. "Mr. Mitchell, what's going on? You can talk to me; it's better than keeping it all inside."
She sensed he had a lot on his mind.
Alexander sighed, "Why do you want to know?"
"I..." Madison hesitated. "I'm worried about you."
"Why are you worried about me?"
Madison's heart skipped a beat. "I..."
She felt flustered, unsure how to respond.
Alexander glanced at her. "Her name is Ava."
Madison was stunned. "Ava?"
Alexander nodded. "My ex-wife."
Hearing "ex-wife," Madison felt a slight relief.
But then Alexander added, "She's the woman I love."
