Chapter 846 Truly Loves Her
Vicky shot her dad a look. "Dad, you really think that?"
Dalton shrugged. "What about you, Vicky? You ain't dumb. You know who Ava's really into."
Vicky clammed up. Dalton gave her shoulder a pat. "Vicky, you don't want William getting hurt, do ya?"
"But what if it's a done deal that William's gonna get hurt? What then? If he finds out Ava and him aren't meant to be and he can't claim her kid as his, what do we do?"
Only she and Brandon knew this secret; Dalton was still in the dark.
"Why should we tell him? Let him be a fool in love, it's fine."
Dalton thought about himself and Mia, who was technically someone he couldn't love either.
Mia was George's wife, but he still went after her, even threatened her just to be with her, even if it was just for a bit.
William loved Ava the same way.
Like father, like son—both stubborn as hell.
Seeing Dalton's self-deprecating grin, Vicky was confused. It sounded like he was talking about himself.
"Dad, in your love story, my mom was the fool, right?" She felt a pang of anger for Hailey.
She couldn't figure out what was wrong with Hailey.
She thought Dalton was just a player, into younger women, but she didn't expect him to go for a middle-aged woman who was George's wife.
She'd rather he chased after young, pretty girls. At least then, she knew he wouldn't really love them; it was just a guy thing.
He'd find a girl and ditch her after a few days, no big deal.
But Mia? That scared Vicky. She worried Dalton truly loved her, and it had nothing to do with youth or beauty.
At the mention of Hailey, Dalton's face darkened. "Vicky, haven't I told you? Hailey and I are divorced. Drop it."
Vicky bit back her feelings. "I get it, Dad. I'm heading to the restroom."
She made her way to a more secluded restroom and waited.
When she spotted a servant, she quickly grabbed her.
"Hold up."
The servant looked startled. "Ms. Bennett, need something?"
"That woman, Mia, when did she start coming to my dad's place?" Vicky demanded.
The servant looked scared and shook her head. "I don't know."
Vicky pulled out some cash from her bag and handed it over. "Know now?"
The servant eyed the money but hesitated, not wanting to spill the beans.
Seeing this, Vicky tossed in a few more bills, "Come on, spill it."
"Sorry, Ms. Bennett, my lips are sealed."
"Relax, I swear I won't tell my dad. I just wanna know when Mia started hanging around."
"Why not just ask me directly? Why bother her?"
A voice came from behind.
Vicky jumped and turned to see Dalton standing there, glaring at her.
Vicky felt a pang of guilt. "Dad, why'd you follow me?"
"Because your timing was too perfect. Mia just left, and here you are. Been spying on the villa, huh?"
Dalton saw right through her little game.
Vicky hung her head, scared stiff.
The servant, freaked out, bolted. Lucky for her, she hadn't spilled anything, or she'd be in deep trouble.
Dalton stood over Vicky, his face cold, "Vicky, if you got questions, ask me. Why sneak around like a spy? You really let me down."
His icy words cut deep. Vicky couldn't take it. She looked up, gathering her courage. "I'm disappointed in you. What's up with you and Mia?"
"I'm divorced. Can't I see someone?"
"Sure, date whoever you want. But why Mia? She's George's wife."
"I don't care," Dalton said coldly, "I don't care whose wife she is. If I want her, I'll have her! Vicky, you're my daughter. I won't make things hard for you, but don't push me. Stay out of my business."
"And what about Mom? Why'd you divorce her?" Vicky snapped, "Was it because of Mia? What's so special about her? If she were young and hot, I might get it, but she's middle-aged, same age as Mom. Your son married her son's ex-wife. What you two did is gross!"
Dalton slapped Vicky hard.
The slap sent her to the ground, clutching her burning cheek.
She looked up at him, shocked.
Dalton had been strict and harsh, but he'd never hit her before.
This was a first.
Dalton's eyes blazed with anger. "It's not your place to lecture me. Who I want is my business. I don't care who she is or who her son is!"
"So you dumped Mom for that woman? What did she do to seduce you? Tell me!"
Vicky cried, heartbroken.
