Chapter 756 She Tricked Me Again

Early Morning

Alexander sat in his penthouse, staring out the massive windows.

The city lights sparkled, and the streets below twisted and turned. Even at this hour, the city was alive.

He reached for the bottle of liquor next to him, but just as he was about to grab it, Ethan snatched it away.

Alexander turned, frowning. "Give it back."

"Stop drinking. Your wounds haven't healed yet," Ethan said, holding the bottle out of reach.

Alexander's voice turned icy. "If you don't let me drink, do you want me to jump off the building?"

"Don't scare me. I have a weak heart. If you jump, you'll give me a heart attack," Ethan shot back.

Alexander chuckled. "Then I won't jump."

He had thought about jumping, almost did it, but George had called out to him at the last moment.

He waited for Ava, but she never came.

He wanted to see her one last time before he died, but she never showed up.

He planned to jump again, but...

In short, he didn't want to jump anymore.

Ethan sat beside him. "Alexander, how long are you going to hide here?"

Alexander had contacted Ethan to get him out of the hospital. He left the hospital secretly, without anyone knowing. He even hired a hacker to destroy the hospital's surveillance.

So when Alexander left, no one knew. He just vanished because he wanted to.

After thinking it over, he realized that only at Ethan's place could he find some peace and solitude.

Alexander teased, "I'll buy this building. You move out, and I'll stay here alone."

Hearing that Alexander was still in the mood to joke, Ethan knew he probably wouldn't jump.

He had been watching all night, and it was almost 1 AM.

Despite his injury, Alexander didn't sleep and kept drinking. He was clearly exhausting his body.

As his friend, Ethan was very worried.

"You should talk to Ava," Ethan said.

At the mention of "Ava," Alexander's brow furrowed slightly.

Ethan mustered up the courage. "You should talk to her. Maybe she'll apologize. You can use that as an excuse to get her back. She'll definitely feel guilty and get back together with you."

Ethan knew the whole story. He was shocked at the time and wanted to tell Alexander that such a woman wasn't worth it. She didn't care about his life or death for another man.

But seeing Alexander in this state, Ethan knew that Alexander was deeply in love with Ava. He would die for her without hesitation.

He was hopelessly in love with her.

If he said anything to make Alexander give up on Ava, Alexander might beat him to death.

Even though Alexander couldn't face her now, he wouldn't allow anyone to say a bad word about Ava.

Alexander suddenly laughed. "She'd get back with me out of guilt, not love. Is that what you mean?"

He thought bitterly, 'If Ava loves me, why did she choose William?'

'Our ten years together can't compare to the few months she spent with William. She doesn't love me any more. I'm a joke.'

His thoughts took a turn. 'Even if I meet with Ava and talk things out, so what? Even if she gets back with me, it would be out of guilt, not love.'

'If Ava doesn't love me but forces herself to be with me, it would be utterly despairing.'

'Because I love her deeply.'

'My love for her has evolved from possession to letting her go.'

'Perhaps it's a higher level of love.'

Ethan retorted, "How do you know she doesn't love you? Talk to her. If you keep hiding and not seeing her, how do you know..."

"She doesn't want to see me." Alexander turned his head coldly. "Ethan, she doesn't want to see me. I waited for her for so long, and she lied to me again. She never tells the truth!"
