Chapter 348 He is a Hunk
Ava had braced herself for a confrontation. Anticipating Alexander's displeasure at her message, she had armed herself with a litany of counterarguments. Yet, his response was wholly unexpected.
Alexander: [Okay. I won't bring up these matters if they upset you. In the future, just let me know if something bothers you, and I'll rectify it.]
A sense of peculiarity washed over Ava. She glanced at the calendar, half-expecting to find it was April Fool's Day or some other occasion for jest. But no, it was an ordinary day, as mundane as they come.
Yet, Alexander's behavior was anything but ordinary. His obedience was disconcerting, reminiscent of a well-behaved puppy. The more she pondered, the more she found herself describing him as 'obedient,' almost as if he regarded her as a sister.
His next message further intrigued her.
Alexander: [Ava, remember to eat properly and get enough rest. Don't neglect yourself. Also, thank you.]
Ava: [Thank you for what?]
His response was a playful emoji, accompanied by some words.
Alexander: [Thank you for everything you've done for me.]
Ava was baffled. What had she done for Alexander? Was he referring to her silent love for him, her efforts to accommodate him, her attempts to be a good wife? But he didn't seem to imply that. Alexander wasn't even aware of Ava's feelings for him. It was as if she had done something extraordinary for him, warranting his gratitude. Yet, Ava couldn't recall any such deeds. Their recent interactions had been marred by the turbulence of their impending divorce, leading to more disputes than acts of kindness.
Ava: [What have I done for you?]
Alexander: [We both know. Thank you.]
Ava was at a loss for words. She had sincerely asked him what she had done, but his cryptic response left her even more perplexed. Moreover, his penchant for pairing messages with emojis, classic ones like smiles, waves, and mischievous faces, was endearing yet odd. It was as if he were a middle-aged man, not fully grasping the nuances of these digital expressions. His attempts at conveying emotions through emojis often resulted in unintended interpretations. Yet, Alexander was a young, handsome, and assertive CEO, not someone one would associate with such quirks.
Ava wasn't sure if others shared her sentiment, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss.
Suddenly, a realization dawned upon her. Perhaps Alexander was expressing gratitude for the night she had cared for him after his grandmother's assault. She chided herself for nearly forgetting that incident. It seemed Alexander did harbor some appreciation for her after all.
Ava: [You're welcome, I didn't think too much of it. We've known each other for so many years. If you need anything, I won't mock you.]
Alexander: [If it weren't for you, the consequences could have been dire. I want to thank you for your efforts.]
Ava: [It was just a trivial matter.]
Alexander: [For me, it's not just a trivial matter. . You prevented a disaster. Otherwise, I would have suffered greatly. I didn't expect you to do these things for me.]
Ava was taken aback. What had she prevented that was so catastrophic? Had she stopped his wound from getting infected? She couldn't help but feel that they were talking past each other.
Ava: [Why do I feel like we're not talking about the same thing? Are you thanking me because I took care of you that night?]
