Chapter 689 I Need Surgery

"Doctor, how is my wife?" William asked with concern.

The doctor reviewed the test results and explained, "Ms. Anderson, you have cervical insufficiency, which means your cervix can't support the weight of the fetus."

Ava hurriedly asked, "Is it serious? Will it harm the baby?"

The doctor replied, "You are nineteen weeks pregnant. At this stage, your cervical insufficiency and the opening of the cervix can pose a significant threat to the life of the fetus, potentially leading to a miscarriage."

Hearing this, Ava's heart nearly jumped out of her chest. She panicked. She asked in a panic, "What should I do? How can I save my baby?"

"Don't worry," the doctor reassured her. "Although you have cervical insufficiency, it can be treated with surgery."

"What kind of surgery?" William asked.

"A cervical cerclage. It can increase the support of the cervix by stitching the cervical opening, which can prevent premature birth or miscarriage."

"Is this the best surgical method?"

The doctor nodded, saying, "Yes, it is currently the safest and most effective method."

"Are there any risks?" William asked.

"All surgeries come with risks. While a cervical cerclage can solve the problem, it is not entirely risk-free. After the surgery, it may cause uterine contractions, or the cervical opening might get infected, leading to complications like the rupture of membranes. However, a successful surgery can significantly improve the fetus's survival rate and ensure the well-being of both mother and child."

"So, you mean if I don't have the surgery, my baby will be in great danger and could be lost at any time. If I do have the surgery, there are risks, but if the surgery is successful, my baby will be safe, right?"

The doctor nodded. "Yes."

"Then I'll do it," Ava said. "Arrange the surgery for me immediately."

"Ava," William said, "aren't you going to discuss this with me? I'm your husband."

Ava was a bit angry, "Do we need to discuss this? This is about my baby's safety. If I don't have the surgery, my baby will be in danger. Are you telling me you don't want me to have the surgery?"

"I didn't mean that. I'm just worried about you. Any surgery has risks. What if something happens to you?"

The doctor suggested, "Maybe you two should discuss it first. The surgery can only proceed smoothly if all family members agree."

"No need," Ava said immediately. "It's my body and the child is mine too. He's not even the biological father, so I can decide on my own. I'll bear any consequences myself. Please arrange the surgery for me."

Ava's attitude was unusually firm; she didn't want to discuss it with William at all.

Seeing that Ava disregarded his opinion so much, even mentioning that he wasn't the biological father, William was very hurt, and moreover, he was angry.

She cared so much about Alexander's child, even at the risk of her own body

This surgery could also endanger her life, and she didn't even consider that.

Perhaps in Ava's eyes, he was hesitating. But actually he was worried about this foolish woman while she was only worried about Alexander's child.

The doctor said, "Ms. Anderson, I think your husband..."

"The law states that as long as I am conscious, I can make my own medical decisions. Why do I need my family's approval? I've made up my mind, I want the surgery. I don't need anyone else's agreement. If the hospital insists on getting family consent, then I'll have to get a lawyer to protect my rights."
