Chapter 816 Betrayal

Seeing Madison's excitement, Eason quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll explain."

He pulled out his phone, swiped a few times, and handed it to Madison.

On the screen was a photo of a beautiful young woman with a gentle smile, like spring sunshine.

Madison's heart raced. "Is this..."

Eason nodded. "That's Alexander's ex-wife, Ava."

Madison stared at the photo, her eyes welling up. 'She's so beautiful. No wonder Alexander can't forget her,' she thought. 'But why did he cheat with Isabella? Isabella isn't prettier. Maybe she understood him better? But Alexander still can't forget Ava, so she must've been special. Are all men like this?'

Eason swiped to another photo, this time of Alexander and Ava together, looking blissfully happy.

"See, that's his ex," Eason said, taking the phone back. "Their breakup is a pity. His ex-wife hates him now."

Madison clenched the blanket. ""She doesn't seem like the type to get a revenge."

Eason added, "Ms. Allen, you're too kind. Do you know who Ava's current husband is?"

"Who?" Madison asked.

"William," Eason replied. "He's not a good guy and sees Alexander as a threat. He wants him dead."

Madison was shocked, "Is this true?"

"Don't you think Alexander seems desperate? He doesn't want to live anymore."

Madison remembered Alexander's outburst, realizing he really didn't want to live. What could make a man with his status feel this way? He must be deeply hurt.

Seeing Madison's tears, Eason gently patted her hand. "Only you can help him now."

"Why me?" Madison asked, confused.

Eason picked up a mirror and placed it in front of her. "Who are you looking at?"

Madison saw her sorrowful face. "It's me, so what?"

Eason showed her the photo of Ava again. Madison looked at the photo, then at herself in the mirror, and finally, her eyes widened in shock.
