Chapter 908 Gentle and Kind
The morning sun sneaked through the window, casting a soft glow on Vincent's pale face.
He stirred awake, blinking as his mind slowly cleared up.
Turning his head, he spotted Ava slumped in a chair, her petite frame looking all kinds of delicate.
She was out cold, probably stayed up all night by his side. Her nose had this cute little blush, kissed by the morning light.
Vincent thought about waking her, but he couldn't tear his eyes away. The words just died in his throat.
Her long hair spilled over her shoulders, the sunlight making her skin glow like she was wrapped in golden silk. She looked even more stunning.
Her brows were slightly furrowed, like she was having a rough dream. The sunlight through her lashes made tiny sparkles, giving her an almost magical look.
Last night, before he blacked out, he asked her name. She said she was Ava.
Vincent sat up, leaning against the headboard, and checked out his wounds.
He was all cleaned up, someone had taken care of him.
'Was it Ava? She seems pretty sweet,' Vincent thought.
"Ava," he called out.
Ava stirred, opened her eyes, and saw Vincent awake. She looked both surprised and happy, "You're up! How are you feeling?"
She'd been worried sick he wouldn't wake up.
So she stayed by his side, checking his breathing now and then, until she dozed off as dawn broke.
"You've been here the whole time?" Vincent noticed she looked pretty worn out, clearly up all night.
Ava forced a smile, "I'm just glad you're okay."
"There's an empty room next door. Go crash," Vincent said.
Ava started to protest, "It's fine, I..."
But she yawned mid-sentence, quickly covering her mouth, looking a bit embarrassed.
Vincent said bluntly, "Ava, don't be stubborn. If you're tired, go sleep. No need to act tough."
His straightforwardness made Ava blush. But he was right.
She stood up, "Alright, I'll go get some sleep. If you need anything, just holler."
Vincent nodded.
Ava stumbled out of the room.
She hadn't slept well for days, and staying up almost all night had her barely keeping her eyes open. If she didn't rest, she'd collapse.
Her whole body ached from sitting in that chair. She walked, massaging her shoulders.
The room next door was neat and the bed looked inviting. As soon as Ava lay down, she was out like a light.
A few hours later, Vincent came out of the bathroom and heard a phone ringing on the bedside table.
He walked over and picked it up, seeing it was Ava's phone.
He was about to take it to her when he saw the caller ID was William.
Definitely a dude's name. Who was he to her?
The phone rang until it went to voicemail.
Just as he put the phone down, William called again.
Vincent placed the phone back on the table, arms crossed, staring at the screen.
The second call also went to voicemail.
Then a text came through: [Honey, are you coming home today? The kid misses you so much.]
