Chapter 27 You Studied Finance for Him, Didn't You?

"What's up with your stomach? You feeling okay?"

Today, on stage, he noticed she wasn't feeling well. When she almost fell, she instinctively clutched her stomach.

"I'm fine." Ava moved her hand away from her stomach. "I really don't know how to thank you. I'll cover the medical expenses and all the follow-up costs..."

"Ms. Anderson," William cut her off, "I don't need your money. Don't worry about it."

"Oh, right." William turned, opened the nightstand drawer, and took out a diploma and a graduation cap. "These are yours."

Ava took the items from him, puzzled. "Why do you have these?"

"I had a feeling you'd come looking for me, so I brought them along to give to you. Don't lose them next time."

"Thanks." Ava hugged the diploma and cap to her chest. She rarely met men as considerate as William.

Seeing Ava holding the diploma, William sensed something. "You studied finance for your husband, didn't you?"

At the mention of "husband," Ava's heart skipped a beat.

It was laughable. For a man who didn't love her, she had chosen a future she didn't want, a major she didn't like, and gave up what she truly loved.

"So your husband is Alexander Mitchell."

Hearing William's words, Ava asked, "You know him?"

"He's a big name. Of course, I've heard of him. I didn't know you were his wife."

"Not for much longer," Ava said, feeling a sharp pain in her chest, as talking about it made her feel like she was suffocating.

William looked puzzled. "What do you mean?"

It was complicated, and it was a matter between her and Alexander. She didn't want to discuss it with an outsider, so she changed the subject. "By the way, about what happened today, I apologize on his behalf. He didn't mean it; he misunderstood."

"Never mind. Don't worry about it."

William wasn't the type to hold grudges, so he wouldn't dwell on it. But the scene earlier had shocked him. Even though Ava was Alexander's wife, his reaction seemed over the top.

"Thank you. I owe you a favor. If you ever need my help, I'll do whatever I can."

William had saved her child, and she would never forget that.

William was about to say it wasn't necessary, but seeing her earnest face, he realized she genuinely wanted to repay him. If he refused, it might make her feel guilty. He said, "Then do something for me now."

"What is it? Just tell me."

"Take a walk with me."

"What?" Ava thought she misheard. "Where do you want to go?"

"Not far, just around the hospital. Is that okay?"

"Of course," Ava replied, "But isn't that too simple? Just a walk?"

"What's wrong? You don't want to?"

"Of course I do. Can you walk?"

"I can walk. My legs aren't broken." William got out of bed. After taking a couple of steps, he suddenly clutched his chest, frowning slightly.

Ava quickly supported him. "Let me get you a wheelchair."

"No need. I want to walk."

Since William insisted, Ava didn't argue and helped him out.

As they turned a corner in the hallway, they ran into a couple.

Ava's face turned pale with surprise. It was Alexander and Isabella. What a coincidence!
