Chapter 28: What Are You Doing Here?

Alexander was holding up Isabella, who looked pale and worn out. His eyes landed on Ava's hand, noticing her fingers wrapped around William's arm. His expression turned icy.

The four of them stood there in silence, the tension thick in the air.

"What are you doing here?" Alexander asked coldly, as if she had no right to be there.

Ava was about to let go of William's arm but then saw Alexander supporting Isabella. She had no reason to feel guilty; she hadn't done anything wrong. So she replied, "Mr. Bennett helped me and got hurt. I'm here to check on him. Aren't you here with Miss Harrington?"

Isabella quickly interjected, "Don't misunderstand. I wasn't feeling well and couldn't find anyone else to help, so I called Alexander."

Ava smiled. "I didn't misunderstand. Isn't that exactly what happened?"

Seeing Ava's relaxed expression made Alexander uncomfortable, like something was slowly piercing his heart. His cold gaze shifted to William, but he spoke to Ava, "You've seen him now. Go home."

Ava scoffed at Alexander's commanding tone. "Sorry, I promised to take Mr. Bennett for a walk. You stay with Miss Harrington."

Alexander was with another woman at the hospital. Why could he order her to go home?

"Mr. Bennett, let's go," Ava said, supporting William as they walked past the other two.

Alexander's face darkened, his eyes burning with anger. Impulsively, he let go of Isabella and was about to follow them when Isabella suddenly swayed and almost fell.

Isabella let out a small cry. Hearing the commotion, Alexander turned back and caught her, "Isabella, are you okay?"

Ava glanced back, seeing Alexander's protective demeanor toward Isabella. He was afraid she might get hurt, and Ava’s heart ached.

Alexander was busy tending to Isabella. When he looked up again, Ava and William were gone.

William and Ava walked to the lawn around the hospital. The scenery was beautiful, with a small lake and many benches for people to rest. Ava helped William sit on one of the benches.

The afternoon sun was warm and lazy. William turned to see Ava with her eyes closed, her face tilted up to the sun, and her cheeks glowing with a bright light. She looked serene and beautiful.

William watched her for a while. When Ava opened her eyes, he discreetly looked away.

Ava thought William might ask her questions. Given the awkward and complex situation earlier, anyone would be curious. However, William sat silently beside her, not saying a word.

Ava was relieved; she didn't want to answer those kinds of questions anyway. His silence was just right.

After a long quiet moment, Ava spoke first, "Mr. Bennett, I didn't know you were a major shareholder of Rivershade University."

William nodded. "Blue Sky Group has invested in many schools."

"Blue Sky Group?" Ava was surprised. "You're..."
