Chapter 400 A Timely Operation

Half an hour had passed since William's departure from the Bennett household. Dalton found himself alone in the expansive living room, his gaze sweeping across the vacant surroundings. The only other presence was the butler, standing at a respectful distance.

The tableau was a familiar one - a solitary master and his faithful servant. His family, his son, daughter, and wife, were seldom present. Despite his efforts as a devoted husband and father, they seemed reluctant to return.

Just as Dalton prepared to retire for the evening, the front door creaked open, admitting a middle-aged man. The newcomer radiated an imposing aura, his demeanor brimming with authority.

"Brother-in-law," he greeted, causing Dalton to look up in surprise.

"What brings you here?" Dalton asked.

"I came to see you," the man replied nonchalantly, shrugging off his coat and settling himself beside Dalton with an air of familiarity, as though the house was his own. "Also, I wanted to discuss my sister's situation."

The man was Brandon, Dalton's brother-in-law, and the younger sibling of Dalton's wife, Hailey. Despite the age difference, Dalton was still considered his elder. "Are you here to pick a fight?" Dalton inquired, maintaining his composure.

Brandon shook his head and said, "Not at all. I'm just concerned about my sister. She hasn't been living with you, and I know how she's been faring in the Bennett household."

Dalton responded, "Hailey has been living a life of luxury here. I've never mistreated her or allowed her to be wronged."

"I'm aware," Brandon replied, his tone laced with hidden meaning, "But she's still unhappy. The reasons, I suspect, are known only to you two."

Dalton tilted his head slightly. "So, what's the purpose of your visit today?"

"I don't want to see my sister unhappy," Brandon stated, "I hope you two can improve your relationship."

Dalton was not one to appreciate interference in his personal affairs. He retorted coldly, "Our relationship has been consistent over the years, much like any other couple. There's nothing to 'mend'."

Brandon's gaze hardened. "But you're not like most couples. Don't forget, without marrying Hailey, you wouldn't be where you are today. Remember the favors the Parker family has bestowed upon you, and don't let us down."

Dalton's eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint flashing within them. "Are you threatening me?"

"Merely a reminder," Brandon replied with a slight smile, "A reminder not to be ungrateful."

"The Parker family has also benefited from me over the years," Dalton replied indifferently, "It's a transaction, we both take what we need."

Brandon abruptly changed the topic, "There are some imminent policy changes. Such information is coveted by many, yet remains elusive. Are you interested?"

As a high-ranking official in Country B, Brandon had access to resources and information that were out of reach for most. This exclusive information was the privilege of the powerful, and by the time it trickled down to the masses, it was often too late. Dalton's interest was piqued at the mention of policy changes.

In Country B, business and policy were closely entwined. Having advance knowledge could mean the difference between overnight wealth and bankruptcy. Dalton had previously capitalized on such information, making timely investments that had increased his company's market value by hundreds of billions overnight, earning him a fortune.
