Chapter 372 The Annoying Man

Ava's voice was steady, her words deliberate. "I believe you're concealing what Will just divulged," she said. "On that day, I wept, pleading with you to desist, but you were adamant about visiting Isabella. You claimed she was ill. I trailed you in my vehicle and witnessed your vow to her with my own eyes. On my return, the rain was torrential, and I collapsed at the hospital's entrance. I've kept this from you, deeming it unnecessary to share. If not for Will's revelation, I would have remained silent, considering it pointless."

Alexander gazed at Ava, a tumult of emotions churning within him. He parted his lips, intending to respond, but words eluded him.

"Could it be true?" he pondered, struggling to accept the reality. He had a nagging feeling that it wasn't just this incident, but other, more significant matters too.

William heaved a silent sigh.

In the end, Ava had chosen not to reveal the truth to Alexander. Perhaps it was for the best, William mused. He had sensed that Alexander's visit that day was premeditated. Despite their divorce, Alexander seemed unable to let go of Ava. William was concerned that Alexander still loved Ava.

It was a tricky situation. Men's desires were capricious. They often failed to appreciate what they possessed, only to lament its loss.

Perhaps it was only after severing ties with Ava that Alexander had recognized her value and sought to reclaim her.

Thus, it was preferable that Alexander remained oblivious to Ava's pregnancy. Otherwise, he might exploit it as a pretext to woo her back. Ava, in turn, might relent, considering that he was, after all, the child's father, leading to a possible reconciliation.

Once Ava had finished speaking, she made her way towards the door.

Alexander, unable to resist, trailed behind her.

Sensing his presence, Ava spun around, her voice icy as she warned, "Anyone who dares to follow me will sever ties with him."

With her fists clenched, Ava swiftly departed after issuing her warning.

Alexander watched her retreating figure until she vanished from view.

"Felix," Alexander called out.

"Mr. Mitchell," Felix responded, turning around. "What can I do for you?"

"Have the bodyguard secretly follow her and escort her home safely, without her noticing," Alexander instructed.

"Understood," Felix replied, promptly relaying the orders through his phone.

"Alexander," William interjected, his brows furrowed, "Why persist in pestering Ava when she clearly doesn't want you trailing her?"

"Pester her?" Alexander retorted, his teeth gritted in frustration. "What's wrong with ensuring her safety? She's upset and driving home alone. What if something were to happen on the road and there's no one to assist her? Would you bear the responsibility?"

William was left speechless.

Although Alexander's insistence infuriated him, William had to concede that he had a valid point. He too was concerned about Ava's solitary journey home, but she was adamant about not being escorted.

Alexander approached William, demanding, "What is Ava keeping from me?" He was convinced that William knew more than he let on.

The situation was ludicrous. Ava was William's ex-wife, yet he felt utterly clueless, like a fool.

Felix, standing off to the side, wiped the sweat from his brow. Caught in the middle of their dispute, he felt distinctly uncomfortable.

William tilted his head slightly, a sneer playing on his lips. "If you're so curious, why not ask her directly? Aren't you family?"

"Enough with the mockery, William," Alexander retorted coldly. "I suspect it's you who's poisoned Ava against me, deliberately alienating her and making her reluctant to confide in me. Yet, she considers someone like you a friend."

"Someone like me?" William scoffed. "Mr. Mitchell, you may deem me unworthy, but Ava seems content to befriend 'someone like me'."
