Chapter 552 Where Is the Dignity

"This is someone else's wedding. What does it have to do with you? People might think you have some special relationship with the bride, the way you were protecting her!" Ava tried to talk sense into Alexander.

Hearing Ava's words, Alexander chuckled, "Are you jealous? Because I'm protecting another woman."

"Why would I be jealous?" Ava said helplessly, "I just think your behavior is really over the top. We're just here to attend the wedding and then leave. Now you've made such a scene. If Grandma finds out, she'll definitely be very angry!"

"I want to make a scene to stop them from getting married because I know that man is no good." Alexander spoke with utmost seriousness.

Ava let out a mocking laugh, "So you're standing up for justice? I never thought you were that kind of person."

"Their wedding reminded me of us." Alexander's breath, heavy with the smell of alcohol, wafted over her as he whispered in her ear, "If the groom marries the bride, I know that woman will end up heartbroken someday, just like you. I made you sad, so I want to do something."

Alexander closed his eyes, leaned down, and rested his forehead on her shoulder. "I really want to do something."

Ava's eyes seemed to lose focus as she stared blankly ahead. "What's the point of doing this? Ruining someone else's wedding, what good does it do you? We can't go back to the way things were."

"Ava," Alexander said softly, "Not everything in this world is done for personal gain. Sometimes, you want to do it, or you feel you should do it. Yes, I've ruined their wedding, but it's better than that woman finding out much later that her husband is a fraud."

Ava was momentarily speechless.

In a way, he wasn't wrong, but...

"Ava, if you had known from the start that things would turn out this way between us, would you still have married me?" Alexander asked.

Alexander let go of her wrist and cupped her face. "You should be able to answer that, right?"

Ava stared at him blankly for a long time before she finally spoke, "I wouldn't."

If she had known this day would come, she would rather have never married him.

Alexander gave a bitter smile, and remarked, "Yes, you wouldn't. Even though it hurts, that's the answer I wanted to hear. If you hadn't married me in the first place, maybe you wouldn't have been so miserable."

"Alexander, no matter what, this is between us. What's the point of everything you've done today? What if that man had done everything correctly? Wouldn't all this just be you making a scene for no reason? If word gets out, your reputation will be severely damaged."

"Does my ex-wife still care about my image?" Alexander placed his hands on her thin shoulders, scrutinizing her closely. "But I was right, wasn't I? He did something wrong. I could tell just by looking into his eyes."

Ava suddenly remembered something, and asked, "When the bride was questioning the groom, you told her to check his call records. What did you mean by that? How were you so sure?"

"Because earlier, I overheard the groom making a secret phone call. It was obvious he was talking to a woman. I heard him say that night was a mistake and that he was under too much stress from planning the wedding, and that's why he slept with her. He told her not to mention it to anyone."
