Chapter 1157 Filled with Tenderness
Ava was slightly taken aback, then turned her head, looking at him with tears in her eyes.
For some reason, as soon as Bishop said those words, her emotions seemed to burst like a flood.
She lost control and threw herself into his arms, burying her face in his chest, and began to cry bitterly.
Her sobs were muffled against Bishop's chest.
Ava was trembling all over, and her tears quickly soaked his clothes.
Bishop held her tightly, gently patting her back and stroking the back of her head.
He didn't say anything, letting Ava cry in his arms.
Ava was utterly exhausted. Because of Scarlett's funeral these past few days, she couldn't eat or sleep, and she was physically and mentally drained.
After crying herself to exhaustion in Bishop's arms, she gradually felt a wave of drowsiness and unknowingly fell asleep in his embrace.
Bishop looked down at the sleeping Ava in his arms. He didn't wake her but carefully adjusted her position without disturbing her.
He leaned back on the sofa, holding her, letting her sleep comfortably.
Seeing her tear-stained face, he felt a pang of heartache. He gently wiped away her tears with his thumb and softly said, "Sleep, I will protect you."
Ava slept for an hour and a half.
When she woke up again, it was already dark.
She opened her eyes and found herself leaning against Bishop's chest.
Suddenly remembering something, she quickly got up from his arms.
At this moment, Ava's eyes were a bit swollen, and her complexion still didn't look good.
"Bishop, how long did I sleep?"
"Not long, about an hour and a half." Bishop glanced at the time on his watch.
"Why didn't you wake me?" She had actually fallen asleep in his arms.
Ava's voice was particularly hoarse, and Bishop felt a pang of heartache hearing it.
"You were too tired, so I couldn't bear to wake you."
Bishop moved his arm, which had gone numb from Ava's weight.
"Sorry," Ava said apologetically, "for sleeping in your arms for so long."
She already had a lot on her mind, and with Scarlett's death, especially since she was murdered and the killer was protected by Alexander, she was in great pain. So her emotions got the better of her, and she cried in his arms.
Everyone has moments of losing control and wanting comfort.
She was grateful that Bishop was by her side, able to give her some comfort.
"It's okay. What do you want to eat tonight? I'll make it for you."
Ava said, "I don't have much of an appetite."
"You need to eat something. I can make you something appetizing. You can't go without eating; you haven't been eating well these past few days."
Ava stared at him blankly, her eyes suddenly a bit dazed. "Bishop, why are you so good to me?"
Their meeting began with a dangerous situation, and she hadn't expected to get this far with Bishop.
She knew Bishop was a dangerous man, but he wasn't a bad person. He was even better than most people. It was just his circumstances and experiences that forced him to become cold and ruthless.
"And you? Why are you good to me?" Bishop asked in return.
"Because you saved my life," Ava replied. "If it weren't for you, I would have been dead, and Sunny would have lost her mother. So I am very grateful to you."
"Is it just gratitude? Do you only see me as a benefactor?"
Bishop's gaze was somewhat forlorn.
"Of course not. I also see you as my friend."
Where else could she find a loyal friend like Bishop?
"Ava," Bishop suddenly held her hand, "can we be more than just friends?"
His eyes were filled with hope and tenderness.
