Chapter 234 Ava's Ordeal

Ava sat trembling and covering her ears, because she knew that if she opened the door, her aunt might hit her. While her aunt was usually verbally abusive when sober, seldom laying a hand on her, she lost all reason when drunk.

After being hit a couple of times, Ava learned her lesson. Whenever her aunt drank, she'd lock herself in her room. Her aunt would eventually tire of shouting and stagger off to bed, and then, Ava would be safe.

It was truly a dark time. Ava often witnessed her aunt bringing different men home, and all she could do was return to her room and block her ears.

Then one day, her aunt left her at the doorstep of SK Group, saying, "Ava, wait here for me, I'll come back to pick you up soon." But it turned into a two-day wait, during which Ava lingered outside SK Group, eventually fainting from exhaustion.

When she woke up, she found herself being watched over by a benevolent face. Despite her difficult past, being adopted by her grandmother marked a turning point in her life. Under the care of the Mitchell family, her bleak childhood memories were swept into a corner. Her misfortune and fortune were intertwined.

Scarlett said with compassion, "How can you say it's 'okay'? You always keep your sorrows to yourself, trapping the hardship inside. When grandma found you, you were nothing but skin and bones, covered in bruises. It pained me to see how much you had suffered, the more I thought about it."

"Grandma, I'm really okay now. Let's not talk about those unhappy times, alright?"

Ava, no matter what, always greeted her grandmother with a smile, never burdening her with her troubles.

She was truly like a little sun.

Over the years, Scarlett had been grateful that she chose to adopt Ava Anderson.

Not only did she gain a wonderful granddaughter, but she also found Alex a good wife.

Although it wasn't her initial intention to find a spouse for her grandson, as time went on, she saw that Ava made a fine wife.

The pity was Alex, just like his father, was blind to what he had and didn't cherish it when he got it.

"Alright, let's not talk about it," Scarlett said warmly as she patted the back of her hand.

"Grandma," a voice came from the doorway, and Scarlett looked up to see Alexander Mitchell walk in.

As he entered and saw Ava there, he paused, his gaze lingering on her for a few seconds.

The moment Scarlett saw Alexander, her previously smiling face immediately turned cold.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, seemingly disgusted with her own grandson, and not the least bit polite.

To the uninitiated, it might look like he wasn’t the grandson at all, but some bothersome brat from down the street.

Alexander had long since become accustomed to his grandmother's attitude. It seemed she reserved all her affection for Ava.

He approached and said, "Grandma, I came to see you and to discuss something with you."

Once again, Alexander's gaze settled on Ava Anderson, hesitant.

After a few seconds of looking at each other, they were enveloped in a heavy silence.

"What is it?" the old lady rolled her eyes, "Every day with you, it's always something."

Alexander, feeling frustrated, protested, "Grandma, it's not like I'm always causing trouble, I hardly ever come here, right?"
