Chapter 436 Did You Ever Love Me

Alexander, expressionless, barged in without waiting for Ava's consent and closed the door.

"What are you doing?" Ava frowned. "I haven't agreed to let you in yet."

"I'm already in," Alexander said nonchalantly, completely unreasonable.

Ava tried to contain her anger. "What's the matter with you?"

"How many people have you told I'm a jerk?"

Ava furrowed her brow. "I don't understand what you're talking about!"

Ava hadn't badmouthed him to anyone.

"No? Then why did William's sister call me a jerk? Wasn't that your doing?"

Ava was furious. "How would I know why she said that to you? It wasn't me. Get out. I don't want to see you!"

Alexander felt despondent, especially as Ava was now ushering him away.

He came here looking like he wanted to hold her accountable, thinking Ava had spoken ill of him.
However, he knew it was just an excuse to see her.

"Are you in such a rush to dismiss me, fearing William might discover something? To what extent has your relationship with him developed if you're now off to browse jewelry stores?"

Alexander felt sad when he saw Ava was closed to William.

"What's it to you?" Ava frowned. "We're divorced. Why do you have the right to question me in my own home?"

Ava found Alexander's behavior truly exasperating.

"Is that so? You think just because we're divorced, and we shouldn't care about each other's affairs?"

"Yes, since we're divorced, we should live our own lives. I made that clear last time!" Ava asserted.

Alexander questioned, "If you're so eager to draw a line between us, then why are you helping me?"

Ava looked puzzled. "What are you talking about?"

"You stayed up all night poring over the materials of the Wisdom Future Group, and I was already aware of everything. Aren't you supposed to be drawing boundaries with me? Why then did you choose to selflessly help me?"

Ava finally understood what Alexander was referring to. She seemed to grasp the meaning behind the strange messages he had sent her before.

Did Alexander think she stayed up all night looking at those materials for him?

"Haha," Ava suddenly laughed.

"What's so funny?" Alexander furrowed his brow, getting angrier by the minute at her laughter.

"I'm laughing at how absurd you are. How could you think it was for you?"

If Ava hadn't heard Alexander say those words himself, she would never have imagined he could think that way.

Alexander suddenly had a foreboding feeling. "Then who was it for?"

"I..." Of course, it was for William. However, Ava was worried that if she said it, Alexander would erupt into inexplicable emotions and start to quarrel with her.

"It's none of your business. Aren't you supposed to marry Isabella? You went to buy her a ring today. That's quite sincere."

Suddenly, Alexander grabbed Ava's shoulder and pressed her against the wall.

Ava was startled. "What are you doing?"

"Is it for William?"

If it wasn't for him, then it must be for someone else. Who else could it be but William?

Ava avoided his gaze. "It's none of your business."

"Ava, I want you to tell me the truth. Are you doing this for William to help his career?"

Ava turned her head away, not responding.

Alexander felt a bit angry, pressing hard on her slender shoulders. "Ava, stop pretending to be silent. Answer my question!"

"Yes!" Ava exclaimed angrily. "I'm doing it for him!"

The harmonious atmosphere abruptly shattered. Alexander stared at the woman in front of him, feeling a mix of anger, sadness, and various complex emotions.

Alexander realized how foolish he had been to be moved at that moment, thinking Ava had stayed up all night for him, only to find out she did it for another man.

He was such a clown.

Alexander suddenly laughed. "Didn't you say you and William were just friends? Are you really just friends?"

He even began to suspect that Ava had been lying to him all along. Ava truly loved William.

Witnessing Alexander's inquisitive gaze, Ava felt a surge of indignation rising within her.

She gave him a hard slap.

"Alexander, are you out of your mind? How long has it been since you asked me to be Isabella's bridesmaid? Have you lost your memory? What right do you have to come to my house and say these things to me now? You were the one who divorced me for another woman. What right do you have now?"

"That's because you don't love me!" Alexander suddenly shouted at her. "It's been ten years, Ava. You've always treated me like a brother, even when we divorced. My wife doesn't love me. Should I tie her to me for the rest of my life? You keep saying I'm with another woman, but what about you? Did you ever love me for a moment?"
