Chapter 93 Walk Away With Nothing

"What is it?" she asked.

"Suppose I had nothing to my name, would you still want to be with me?" he questioned.Isabella turned to him, her expression filled with confusion. "Alex, why would you even ask that?"

"Just answer me."

"Is it that you don't trust me? What do you perceive me to be?" Isabella retorted, her anger palpable. "Do you believe I'm with you solely for your status? How could you view me in such a light?"

Her words, spoken from a place of moral superiority, successfully instilled a sense of guilt within Alexander.

"Isabella, that’s not my intention. However, you're aware that my family holds Ava in high regard. If I were to divorce her outright, I could potentially lose everything."Isabella fell silent, her voice wavering, "You mean, walk away with nothing?"

She had overheard Mia utter those words at lunch, dismissing them as mere frustration. She had thought the Mitchell family would never do such a thing to their only grandson. But now, hearing it from him, fear began to creep in.

"It's a possibility," Alexander stated calmly, his voice devoid of regret or worry. He spoke as if the prospect of handing everything over to Ava was of little consequence to him.

Isabella's emotions roiled within her like a stormy sea, but she fought to maintain her composure.

"Alex, this is incredibly unfair. You've worked tirelessly, and you're their only child. It's not right for them to treat you this way, regardless of how wonderful Ava might be. She's not a Mitchell by birth."

"Isabella, I don't care about the inheritance. It's all my grandfather's hard work. I just got lucky, being born into this. It wouldn't bother me if it wasn't mine," he exhaled softly, "but the thing is, if I lose it all, you might have to suffer with me. So you should think about it. If that day ever comes, I won't insist on you sticking by my side."

"Alex!" Isabella sat up in bed, her voice tinged with distress. "Why would you even say that? I'm not afraid of hardship. As long as I'm with you, I'm willing to endure anything. It's not about the money for me, I'm just upset for you. Sure, you were born into a good family, but you've put in the effort too. The Mitchell Corporation wouldn't be what it is today without you. How can they treat you so unfairly just because of a marriage?"

The fear was real for Isabella. She loved Alexander, but if he truly ended up with nothing, her dreams of being the influential Mrs. Mitchell would vanish into thin air. She would face embarrassment among the Harringtons.

She had envisioned walking back into the Harringtons household with Alexander by her side, heads held high, making them all envious!

But now, Alexander was hinting that he might walk away with nothing, leaving everything to Ava?"

Isabella, don't get worked up. I told you, it's not a big deal to me, and you don't have to feel it's unfair on my behalf. Unless, of course, you think you wouldn't want to stay with me if I had nothing."

"That's not it," Isabella said quickly, taking his hand. "Alex, even if you don't care, it hurts me to see this. The way they're trying to sideline you for Ava's sake, it's just unbearable."

She wanted to make sure he didn't misunderstand, so she continued, "However, even if that day comes, it won't matter as long as I'm with you. Whatever life throws at us, I'll be happy. Just being able to see you, I'll feel blessed."

She couldn't panic. The end wasn't here yet, and she was determined not to let Ava have her way.

"Alright, it's late. You should get some sleep," Alexander said as he tucked Isabella back into bed, pulling the covers up to her chin.
