Chapter 610 I Believed You
Upon hearing Ava's reassurance, William suddenly felt a bit guilty, recalling Alexander's previous words. He pondered, 'Could it be that now, I really could only rely on Ava to protect me? I want to knock Alexander down a peg, to take him down a peg, but could it have backfired? Would Alexander want to take Ava back even more because of my actions today? I want to teach him a lesson, to make him less arrogant. But if it really backfired, it wouldn't do me any good either.'
Noticing William's pensive look, Ava quickly said, "William, are you still feeling unwell? Tell me."
"No." William shook his head. "I just feel like he's not what I imagined."
Ava asked, "In what way?"
William said, "To me, he's a stranger. I don't remember anything from before. Today was the first time I met him. In my mind, he was a terrible man, but meeting him, I realized he was completely different from what I imagined. I can't deny that he's very impressive, looking dashing in his suit. A man like that wouldn't lack women."
"William, don't say that. What good is it if he looks good? I've already divorced him."
"No, that's not what I mean," William said, "What I mean is, I thought he was a jerk, very unfaithful, someone who betrayed you and looked down on women. But today, I felt he was different from you. He wasn't as dismissive as I imagined. I could see he wanted to win you back. I don't know if it's possessiveness or love."
Seeing the worry in William's eyes, Ava quickly said, "William, no, don't overthink it. He won't take me back, and I won't go back to him."
"Really?" William looked at her sadly. "You really won't be moved? Even if he begs you?"
"He has begged me," Ava said truthfully, "He humbly asked me to come back to him, but I refused. Honestly, I've never seen him like that. William, please trust me, okay? I may not seem like a decisive person, but since we've divorced, I won't go back to him. The marriage hurt me a lot. I really don't want to go through that again."
"What about our marriage? Has it caused you any harm?"
Ava shook her head. "No, you've always treated me well. We should trust each other."
William sighed softly and nodded. "Okay, Ava. I'm sorry. I was overthinking. I believe you."
Ava responded softly, "Thank you."
Ava stayed with William the entire afternoon. They returned home for dinner.
Ava specifically invited Elinor. Before inviting Elinor, she explained to William that Elinor was their friend. Naturally, William didn't refuse.
After Elinor arrives, William treated her kindly, considering her as Ava's friend.
Halfway through dinner, Ava pretended to take a phone call, deliberately leaving to give them a chance to be alone.
As soon as Ava left, Elinor and William found themselves facing each other in a somewhat awkward silence.
