Chapter 627 Double Standard
"Are you trying to get me to take your side?" Ava said, "Alexander, you know that's impossible."
"Is it that you can forgive William for anything? What if he killed me, would you forgive him, too?"
"He wouldn't kill you," Ava said, "Don't make it sound so serious."
"Ava, you can't be so biased. Knowing that William falsely accused me, you can still stay calm and take his side. I'm really disappointed in you! William is clearly a sneaky person, and you know the truth, yet you still..."
"Don't call him a sneaky person! He did wrong, but before you showed me the surveillance footage, William had already admitted to me that he fell on purpose! So, I didn't find out from the footage; William confessed to me himself!"
"What did you say?" Alexander was somewhat incredulous. "He admitted it himself?"
"Yes, after he admitted it, I was a bit angry, but thinking it over, you also bear a lot of responsibility in this matter."
On the other end of the phone, Alexander was silent for a long time. He couldn't believe that William had actually confessed.
His first reaction was to wonder if Ava was lying to him, to placate him and protect William.
'But knowing Ava as he did, she wouldn't deliberately lie to him. Could William really tell Ava in advance? But why did it have to be before she saw the video?' No matter how Alexander thought about it, something felt off.
He pondered, 'Could it be that William suddenly remembered the restaurant had surveillance, so he told Ava in advance to get ahead of it? Whatever the case, it was clear that William had succeeded.'
Ava signed. "Alexander, let's end this here. No matter who's right or wrong, don't dwell on it anymore. I'm hanging up now."
"Wait a minute," Alexander hurriedly said.
"Is there something else?" Ava questioned.
"Ava, he told you about this, and you forgave him so easily?" Alexander really wanted to know what Ava's first reaction was when she found out.
Ava replied, "He knows he was wrong."
"He knows he was wrong?" Alexander sneered. "William did such a sneaky thing, and you forgave him immediately after he admitted it, but you won't forgive me. You really have double standards!"
"Alexander, the double standards you're talking about are just your perception. Can you really compare William's mistake to yours? You're comparing a serious crime to a minor one and insisting they should be punished the same. Is that your idea of fairness? It's ridiculous."
"I committed a serious crime?" Alexander sneered. "So, you think I'm an unforgivable felon."
"That's right, unforgivable. So, let's end this here. Don't bring it up again. Goodbye." Ava hung up the phone.
She sighed deeply and sat weakly on the bed. "Alexander, you're the one with double standards. How many times have you forgiven Isabella?"
In the restaurant. Dalton put down his water glass and smiled faintly. "I really didn't expect you to ask me out. When I first got your call, I thought I was dreaming."
Mia raised her lips slightly. "Mr. Bennett, I'll get straight to the point. I'm here to talk to you about William's marriage to Ava. I want you to tell me, what's really going on between them."
Dalton's eyebrows raised slightly. "You really care about Ava, treating her like your own daughter."
