Chapter 931 Your Enemy

"Sunny, don't forget, Alexander's your enemy," William reminded her.

As night fell, the hospital was cloaked in darkness, with starlight outside the window looking like scattered pearls on the buildings.

The faint light outlined the buildings' shapes, and the moon on the rooftop rose slightly, casting a soft silver glow.

Alexander lay on the white hospital bed, covered by a white sheet, and the room reeked of disinfectant.

The soft light fell on his pale face, showing his exhausted expression. An IV drip hung beside the bed, with clear liquid slowly flowing into his body.

Alexander opened his eyes, his gaze wandering around the room.

He sat up, turned his head to look at the IV drip, which was still half full.

The door of the ward creaked open, and Curtis walked in, "Mr. Mitchell, you're awake."

"Have you found her?" Alexander asked anxiously.

Curtis shook his head, "Not yet, we're checking other places."

Alexander's eyes lost their usual brightness, becoming dim and lifeless, his brows furrowed with worry.

He lowered his head, forcing a bitter smile, his heart filled with regret.

He should've chased after her then. He shouldn't have let Ava leave like that. How could he have been so careless, letting her drive away alone late at night?

He should've followed her though Madison was hurt.

He used to blame Ava for choosing William at a critical moment instead of him. But at that moment, he chose Madison over Ava, causing Ava to get into trouble.

Back then, it wasn't a tough choice for him. Even if he had chased after Ava, Madison wouldn't have been in danger.

Alexander hated himself for not chasing after her.

Painful waves surged in his eyes, like a deep, dark lake, swallowing his hope and expectations, immersed in boundless regret and self-blame, as if he were trapped in an invisible cage.

"Mr. Mitchell, not finding her might not be a bad thing. As long as no body is found, it means she's still alive. Maybe she's hiding," Curtis tried to comfort him.

"Or maybe she was captured and imprisoned." Alexander raised his head, his hands clenched into fists, his knuckles white, his eyes filled with anger and self-blame.

There were many cases like this, where girls went missing and couldn't be found, as if they vanished into thin air.

But many years later, it turned out they were imprisoned, tortured, and unrecognizable.

He couldn't imagine what kind of torture Ava might be going through, whether she was captured by a pervert.

What did that pervert do to her?

Even if it was just his imagination, there was a high chance it really happened.

Alexander was almost suffocating. He clutched his chest, as if he couldn't breathe.

At that moment, his phone rang.

Alexander picked up the phone and glanced at the caller ID. It was Mia.

After adjusting his emotions, Alexander answered the call, "Hello, Mom."

"Alexander, your grandmother asked me to check on you. How are you doing in Stellaria?" a worried voice came from the other side.

Alexander didn't want Mia to worry, so he didn't mention Ava. He forced a smile, trying to suppress the pain in his heart, and said hoarsely, "Everything's fine."
