Chapter 23 What's Your Relationship with That Guy?
"Don't you think you're overdoing it? You've been faking it all along too, haven't you?" She snapped back.
Alexander was livid. He thought Ava's odd behavior today was just to get back at him over some other guy. In the ten years they'd known each other, she'd never been this mad at him.
"Am I overdoing it?" Alexander suddenly turned and grabbed her shoulders, his grip tight. "What about you? You've been lying to me from the start. You never liked finance, but you pretended to. Why didn't you go study acting since you're so good at it?"
Ava's vision blurred as she remembered the time before college.
Alexander was five years older than her and had already earned his PhD because he was so brilliant. Back then, he was the president of SK Group, while she was still prepping for college.
"Alexander." The office door was open, and as Ava walked in, she saw Alexander talking to Isabella. They were standing close, holding documents.
Seeing Ava enter, Alexander put down his papers. "Ava, what brings you here?"
Isabella, noticing the interruption, closed her file and said professionally, "Mr. Mitchell, if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."
Alexander nodded.
Ava felt Isabella glance at her with a hint of disdain. Sometimes, one could just tell when someone's looking at themselves funny, but they wouldn’t call that person out; without proof, people might think they were imagining things.
"Alexander, who is she?"
"Isabella, an intern from Joaquin University," Alexander replied.
"Joaquin University?" Ava recalled. "Isn't that where you studied? So, she's your junior?"
So, he placed her here for internship because she was his junior?
"Ava, do you need something?"
He didn't directly answer her question, but it was clear Isabella was his junior.
"I need advice on picking a college major. Got any suggestions?"
Alexander, still buried in his work, said, "Pick something you're passionate about."
"Then I'll choose..."
"Excuse me," Isabella interrupted from the doorway. "Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Johnson is online and waiting for you."
Alexander nodded, closing his file. "I'll be right there."
As he passed Ava, he said, "Be good. We'll talk later."
"Oh, okay." Ava looked down, clearly disappointed.
Noticing her silence, Alexander stopped and turned back. Finally, he walked over and held her shoulders. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, you should go," she said, not wanting to hold him up.
"What major do you want to study?" He didn't rush off.
Ava looked up and saw Isabella at the door, looking all professional.
"I want to study finance." She wanted to work alongside Alexander and be like him.
"Do you like finance?" Alexander asked.
Ava nodded. "Yes, I do."
"Alright, then study finance. After you graduate, I can get you a job."
"Can I work at SK Group?" Ava asked softly.
"Of course, I need finance pros." He gently patted her shoulder and left.
At the door, he turned back and said, "Ava, it's best to apply to a university in Rivershade. Don't go too far."
Because of Alexander's words, she chose to study finance. Unfortunately, now he didn't need her anymore.
"Since you didn't leave today, you must have heard I've never regretted it. So why are you accusing me of deceiving you now?"
She didn't blame Alexander and never regretted it, but now he was accusing her.
Alexander stared at her silently for a moment, then released her shoulders, fastened her seatbelt, and drove off.
"What's your relationship with that guy?" He asked with a cold face.
