Chapter 239 He Got Beaten Up
"Grandma, regardless of any misunderstandings, I really shouldn't have stayed over at a male friend's place. But rest assured, William Bennett and I are truly just friends. Nothing happened; he's a good man and has never done anything inappropriate toward me."
Scarlett chuckled softly, "Defending him so eagerly, he must indeed be a decent guy."
"Grandma, he's the president of Blue Sky Group."
"Blue Sky Group?"
Realization dawned on Scarlett's face, "Ah, I see. So, he's the son of the chairman of Blue Sky Group - quite an accomplished young man."
"Grandma," Ava Anderson crouched on the floor, "if you're unhappy about it, I'll just keep my distance from him from now on."
Scarlett let out a sigh, "He's your friend, and I can't stop you from having friends. You're divorced from Alex now; what right do I have to make demands of you?"
"Grandma, it’s my fault. I couldn't keep my marriage with Alex intact, and I let you down."
If Alex hadn't initiated the divorce, even knowing that he didn't love her, she would have stayed in the marriage for her grandmother's sake.
"Oh, sweetie, how could you be to blame?" Scarlett gently patted her head. "Even Alex said it isn’t your fault."
"What did you say?" Ava Anderson looked at her with confusion. "When did Alex talk to you?"
"After you left yesterday, Alex came back."
Ava Anderson remembered that before she left in a huff yesterday, she had another argument with Alexander Mitchell. She was very emotional and drove away without looking back, unaware of what happened after. Could it be that Alex didn't leave?
"Grandma, what did he say when he came back?"
Scarlett's weary gaze drifted into the distance, she began slowly, "He said..."
Yesterday evening.
Scarlett locked herself in her room.
Until she heard Alexander Mitchell's voice outside the door.
"Grandma, Ava's gone. I need to talk to you; can I come in?"
Scarlett didn't let him in or respond, so Alexander Mitchell continued, "Grandma, it's okay if you don't let me see you. I'll just stand here by the door and speak."
After a moment of silence, Alexander Mitchell went on, "Grandma, it's all my fault, not Ava's. I've been entangled with Isabella, hurting Ava countless times."
Regarding my claim that she spent the night with another man, it was said in a moment of anger; the guy is just her friend. Even if he wasn't, I have no right to judge, since I've often stayed out all night myself. But trust me, there's nothing going on between that man and Ava. You should trust Ava's character."
"Grandma, I know you're angry, and it's all my fault. I'm the one who betrayed our marriage first, which led Ava to be disappointed in me. You know, she tends to keep things inside, so by the time she argues with me, it means she can't take it anymore, which shows just how much I've messed up."
"Grandma, now that Ava and I are divorced, I know it's not what you wanted, but from Ava's perspective, she's finally free from me—a husband who failed her."
...
The room fell into silence for a long while after Alexander Mitchell finished speaking. He stood at the doorway until Scarlett finally said, "Get in here."
With a soft sigh, Alexander opened the door and walked in.
Not long after, a stifled groan echoed from the room.
Ava Anderson, stunned after hearing the old lady's words, finally exclaimed in shock, "Grandma, did you hit him with your cane?"
