Chapter 516 Winning Her Back
"Grandma, I need to use the restroom." Ava put down her fork and got up from her seat.
After Ava left, Scarlett looked at Alexander. "Why haven't you said anything?"
Alexander smiled helplessly, "What can I say? Even if I agree, Ava might not. She doesn't want to be close to me. Even pretending is stressful for her."
That was why he didn't say anything. No matter what he said, it would annoy her.
He shared these words with Scarlett without any burden, knowing she understood them deep down. Suppressing everything only served to make everyone feel stifled.
Scarlett sighed, as she had expected this outcome. " The way Ava is treating you now is your own doing. You lost a good wife. You're just like your dad. Why don't you ever learn from your mistakes?"
Alexander said helplessly, "I don't know why. Maybe it's a human flaw. Even when we know something is wrong, we still do it. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many wars."
Scarlett shook her head in resignation. "I'm too tired to scold you. Have you thought about trying to win your wife back? Can't you be persistent? Ava is kind-hearted. If you stick by her side, she'll eventually come around."
"Grandma, she won't come back. She already..."
He wanted to say she had already married William, but Scarlett probably didn't know that. If he said it now, it might upset her.
"Already what?" Scarlett asked anxiously, "Say it, why did you stop?"
Alexander continued, "Scarlett, I mean Ava has been already deeply hurt by me. It's not that easy to win her back."
Seeing Alexander's sad expression, Scarlett asked, "So, you want to win Ava back. You are just like your foolish dad, only realizing your mistake after losing her."
"Grandma, stop scolding me." Alexander lowered his head like a child who had done something wrong. "Dad was luckier than me. At least Mom is still his wife."
"You deserve to be scolded. You lost a good wife. Where will you find another woman as good as Ava? She was great with you, always understanding and considerate. Even when you were too busy to spend time with her, she never complained. She's beautiful and hardworking. You should regret it for the rest of your life!"
Alexander, devoid of appetite, relinquished his fork and remarked, "You are right. I deserve this, so be it."
"What do you mean, 'so be it'?" Scarlett got angry at his defeatist attitude. "Go win her back! You need to cherish her and make amends for your past mistakes. Making mistakes isn't terrifying; it's scarier not to realize you've made one. Admitting and rectifying them shows your character. I consented to your divorce because I couldn't bear to see Ava heartbroken. You were overwhelming back then."
"It's too late. It's all too late," Alexander said in agony.
"Why is it too late? You just got divorced. While Ava hasn't been taken by someone else, you need to act quickly. And most importantly, stay away from Isabella. I don't know why you made that choice back then, but if you regret it now, you should stay away from her."
"Grandma, what happened before was my fault. But now, the issue between Ava and me isn't about Isabella anymore."
