Chapter 105 An Ace
Ava's tired eyes stared at him for a long time before she asked, "Then tell me the truth, did you return to Berlyn to avoid going to jail?"
William knew he couldn't hide it any longer, so he had to admit it.
"Yes. I was worried Alexander would call the police, so I returned to the country because I didn't want to be stuck in Stellaria. It was a moment of impulse; I didn't really want to kill him."
To Ava, whether William acted on impulse or truly intended to kill Alexander, she felt utterly exhausted and no longer wanted to continue living with William.
But now William was injured. That shot, he had actually fired it into his own chest.
Ava felt both sad and scared.
After a long while, Ava asked, "Then how did you know Alexander was going to call the police? You timed your return perfectly. Who tipped you off?"
William was silent for a few seconds before saying, "I bribed someone close to him, so they tipped me off."
"Who did you bribe?" Ava asked.
"A bodyguard," William replied. "That bodyguard has already taken my money and left. Otherwise, staying by Alexander's side, he would have been found out."
Ava was half-convinced, "So it wasn't Madison who tipped you off?"
At the mention of Madison, William's fingers under the blanket twitched slightly.
It was indeed Madison who tipped him off, but he couldn't tell Ava.
It wasn't that he wanted to protect Madison or that he was being honorable, but because if Ava knew it was Madison, she might run off to tell Alexander.
If Alexander found out, he might break up with Madison. So, considering everything, he decided not to let Ava know and just blamed it on a bodyguard. After all, Madison was a key player by Alexander's side. As long as that woman was around, she could at least prevent Ava from being with Alexander.
William responded, "It wasn't Madison. Why would you think of her?"
William's tone was so calm and natural, it was clear he had lied many times and was used to it.
Ava said, "Because she loves Alexander very much, so I thought she had a motive to do so."
"Well, she might have had some motive, but it wasn't her. Since you watched the video from that time, you must have seen how I treated Madison. I had someone point a gun at her, almost killed her. How could Madison possibly tip me off? She would have wanted me in jail."
Ava thought of the video from that time, and it did seem like that.
Madison was being held by several bodyguards, and she was very scared. Anyone in that situation would have been full of hatred.
Ava was now confused and very troubled. So many things had piled up in her mind, becoming a tangled mess that she couldn't unravel.
But the main issue now was that William had indeed lied and had fled back to Berlyn to escape.
Ava mentioned, "Get some rest. Don't do this again. Life is precious and you only get one. If you don't cherish it, who will?"
William apologized, "I'm sorry, Ava."
