Chapter 1289 Tombstone and Lonely Grave

Eason drove George away from their residence.

It was only then that George realized the place Eason had brought him to was desolate, with only a small house and no streetlights.

"Eason, how do you have a house here?"

"It's quiet here, it's nice."

"Quiet is one thing, but this place is too remote. Did you live here before?"

"I only come here occasionally to clear my mind, and with a car, it's convenient to go anywhere."

They drove for about ten minutes, but George still didn't see any other houses through the car window.

He felt a sense of dead silence.

Eventually, the car stopped.

There were lights here, but they didn't seem like public streetlights.

"Get out of the car, my mom is right up ahead."

George got out of the car, and the two of them, holding flowers, walked along a small path.

George looked around, the cold wind blowing through the darkness, giving a sense of desolation.

After walking for a few minutes, they stopped in front of a tombstone.

The tombstone was very simple, with crooked lettering, surrounded by a circle of lights, but there were no other graves around, just this one.

Weeds were everywhere.

This didn't look like a designated cemetery, specifically for burying people.

"My mom is buried here."

Eason placed the flowers in front of the tombstone, "Mom, I'm here to see you. Sorry for being a bit late today, I got held up by something, and I brought a friend with me."

Eason turned to George, "Come over and meet my mom."

George felt a bit uneasy. Seeing the desolate tombstone in front of him, he felt something blocking his heart, making it hard to breathe. He placed the flowers down.

He saw the name "Cheryl Perez" on the tombstone.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?"

"Eason, why is your mother buried here?"

"This place is nice, very quiet. My mom loved peace and quiet. If she were buried in a public cemetery, she wouldn't have liked it."

"Is it allowed to bury people here?"

"Why not?" Eason said, "This whole area is mine. I bought this land. I can bury whoever I want here. When you die, I can bury you here too, next to my mom."

"What?" George was shocked, "What are you talking about?"

Eason lowered his head in despair, "I'm sorry, I spoke without thinking. It's just that I get very sad every year on my mom's death anniversary."

Eason knelt on the ground, gently touching the tombstone.

"Do you know? When my mom died, she was very thin, tormented by illness. No amount of painkillers helped. The only thing she couldn't let go of was me. On the day she died, she was still worried about me because I was covered in injuries."

George listened, his heart trembling, "Why were you covered in injuries? What happened?"

"Those bad kids always bullied me because I didn't have a dad, and my mom was sick, so they didn't have to pay any price for bullying me, and no one would hold them accountable. Usually, when I got hurt, I would hide it from my mom, but that day, because my mom was dying, I could only hold her and beg her not to die. She saw my injuries and was crying even on her deathbed."

Eason looked at the tombstone with tearful eyes, "Mom, look at how well I've grown now. No one bullies me anymore, so you don't have to worry about me anymore."
