Chapter 377 Erasing Time

Panic seized her. A few seconds later, she dared to part the curtains slightly and cast a glance downstairs. There, Alexander remained, his gaze lifting as though he had noticed her. Ava, akin to a deer caught in the headlights, hastily drew the curtains closed once more.

"Is he planning to come upstairs?" she wondered aloud.

After a moment's contemplation, Ava reached for her phone and dialed Alexander's number. She had erased his contact details from her device, making it impossible for him to reach her. However, she could still contact him unless he had reciprocated the action.

The ringing of a phone confirmed that he had not.

A dozen seconds later, Alexander's deep voice resonated from the other end. "Hello."

"Alexander, you're such a stalker, you actually tracked me to my house!" she accused.

"Are you sure this is your home?" Alexander asked.

"Wherever I live is my home. I alone decide where that is. Why did you follow me?"

"For no particular reason, I simply did," Alexander replied with a calmness that belied no panic. "If you don't like it, I'll leave."

"You leave, just go, and never come back again, I don't want to see you ever again."

"Is that why you deleted my contact information?" His voice had turned hoarse. "You never want to see me again, even after our divorce, you don't feel relieved. You have to make me disappear from your world for you to be satisfied, is that it?"

A wave of profound sadness washed over Ava, clouding her vision until even the lights before her blurred.

"Alexander," she managed to utter, her voice strained. "From the moment you asked for a divorce because of Isabella, we should have disappeared from each other's worlds. From now on, you have your life, and I have mine."

"Just like strangers without interference?" Alexander seemed unwilling to believe it.

Ava had said similar words many times before.

Closing her eyes against the pain, she affirmed, "Yes."

Suddenly, Alexander laughed, a sound filled with desolation. "So, our ten years together, because of one failed year of marriage, we must become strangers and erase all the other times. Ava, you really have a way with words!"

Ava was in agony, but Alexander's reaction left her feeling somewhat numb.

It seemed as though she was to blame once more, as though she was the heartless one.

"I did say it. This failed marriage has taught me too much. It made me realize that ten years is nothing. Love is love, and ten years, even a hundred years, wouldn't make a difference!"

For ten years, she had failed to thaw Alexander's heart. If he didn't love her, what more could she do?

Would he keep his so-called sister close in a different way after their divorce?

She couldn't bear that!

She would rather be without Alexander than endure such misery and insignificance.

If she couldn't have him, then she wouldn't!

She wouldn't force something that wasn't meant to be hers!

In one's life, how many things could one truly obtain?

Very few, too few, in fact.
