Chapter 759 Can't Get Over It
"My name's Madison Allen," she said.
"I'm Alexander, Ms. Allen. Nice to meet you."
His tone had softened.
Madison nodded. "Nice to meet you. I recognized you when I saved you. I've seen you on TV. You're the CEO of SK Group."
Alexander gave a helpless smile. "It doesn't mean I'm anything special."
Hearing the disappointment in his voice, Madison thought about how he had just walked toward the windowsill.
She quickly said, "I don't know what happened, but whatever it is, I believe it can be resolved. You're so outstanding, you don't need to..."
She wanted to say he didn't need to choose suicide, but since Alexander didn't admit to it, insisting on it would seem presumptuous.
After all, they weren't close. Even though she saved his life, she couldn't just say whatever she wanted to him.
"I'm running into some problems I can't handle, and besides, you misunderstood. I'm not outstanding," Alexander said with a self-mocking smile.
He sat back down on the bed, his eyes devoid of any light. "I'm a terrible man. I couldn't win back the woman I love. What use am I?"
"The woman you love?"
Hearing this, Madison felt a strong sense of loss.
Alexander was typically private about his personal life. She occasionally saw him on TV, but it was always about business.
She didn't know much about his private life. She couldn't help but guess, 'So his heart has already been occupied by another woman?'
'What kind of woman would a man like him love?'
'A queen, a princess, or a fairy? Someone who could make him so despondent?'
"Mr. Mitchell, please don't say that." Madison, though a bit angry with him earlier, softened now.
She comforted him, "I don't know exactly what happened, but everyone has low points. I believe you'll get through it. Everything can be resolved. Just give yourself some time. Don't belittle yourself."
Alexander looked up, a faint smile on his lips. "Thank you for your comfort. But this time, I'm facing a dead end. It's like I'm at a cliff, and I can't get across."
"If you can't get across, why not take a detour?" Madison asked. "There are so many paths you can choose. You don't have to take one you can't cross. If there's a cliff in front of you, why force yourself to go over it? Some paths in this world are just impassable, and it's not our fault."
Alexander lowered his eyes, deeply saddened.
He said, "It's my fault. The cliff is there because of me. I deserve not to get across."
"No cliff is caused by a person," Madison said as she stepped forward. Seeing Alexander like this made her feel sad too.
She went on, "Mr. Mitchell, sometimes it's not always our fault. Even if the cliff is really caused by you, it's already like this. If you can't fill it, then take another path or build a bridge over it. There's always a way."
As Alexander heard this, a glimmer of light flashed in his eyes. His gaze was not as dim as before.
But soon, he smiled helplessly again. "Thank you for your comfort."
No matter how many bridges he built over the cliff, Ava would cut them down.
She wouldn't want him anymore.
Alexander stated, "Ms. Allen, it's late. You should go back."
"Alright, I won't disturb you any longer," Madison replied.
It was indeed very late. She didn't know why she impulsively came over, just wanting to see him.
At the door, she turned and asked, "Can I come see you again?"
Alexander sighed softly and wrote his number on a sticky note.
Madison's heart leaped with joy. She quickly took the number. "Is this your number?"
Alexander nodded and said, "You saved me. If you ever need help in the future, call this number."
He didn't want to owe Madison. He had to repay this favor. Since she didn't want money, she might need help someday, and he could be of assistance.
Madison didn't expect to get Alexander's number. She was extremely happy and tried to contain her joy. "I understand."
She wanted to ask if she could see him again.
But since he didn't answer the first time and gave her his number instead, she was too embarrassed to ask again.
Maybe she would call him in a few days to ask.
Madison hadn't even left yet and was already thinking about calling him a few days later.
"Then I'll go now. You rest well," she said with concern.
She carefully folded the sticky note and put it in her bag, afraid of losing it.
She walked out of the hospital room with a light step.
Alexander watched her back, watched her steps.
She really resembled Ava.
Her back, her walk.
But even though they were so similar, interacting with Madison couldn't satisfy Alexander.
It only made him feel more heartbroken.
It felt like a stress response to him.
He felt deeply pained inside.
He sighed, took out his phone, and dialed a number.
"Ethan, I need a favor."
