Chapter 643 Blocking the Car on the Road
On her way home, Ava received a call from William.
"Ava, are you back yet?"
"I'm driving back right now."
"Be cautious while driving, no need to rush."
"Got it. You had dinner?"
"Yeah, I'm all fed."
"Alright, I'll be back soon, you..."
Before Ava could finish her sentence, she suddenly noticed in the rearview mirror a person in uniform on a motorcycle following her, dressed like a police officer, gesturing for her to pull over.
"Ava, what's wrong?" William asked as she stopped in the middle of speaking.
Ava replied, "Nothing, I'll be back soon, I'm driving right now."
"Alright, I'll let you go then. It's not safe to talk on the phone while driving."
"Okay, we'll talk when I get home."
They hung up the phone.
By that time, the traffic officer on the motorcycle was already riding alongside Ava, waving at her to pull over.
There was very little traffic on the road Ava was driving on. A lone car would drive by every now and then, leaving intervals of several minutes in between.
Ava had deliberately selected this route based on the GPS navigation to avoid traffic jams. Although it was a bit longer, the lack of traffic greatly accelerated her return home. However, it also meant that the road was a bit more isolated.
She didn't understand why the traffic officer was asking her to pull over since she hadn't violated any traffic rules.
But if she didn't stop, the officer would surely chase her down, which would escalate into a situation where she would be seen as fleeing.
Ava had no choice but to pull over. The officer also stopped his motorcycle by the roadside.
He approached Ava's car window and knocked.
Ava rolled down the window. "What's the matter? I haven't violated any traffic rules."
The officer said, "Your taillight is malfunctioning."
"Taillight?" Ava cast a swift glance at the dashboard indicator, which showed everything were functioning as usual.
"Please show me your driver's license."
Ava took out her driver's license from her bag and handed it to him.
The officer took the license, glanced at it, and then returned it to her. "Please get off and check your taillight."
Ava opened the door and got out. The officer pointed to the rear of the car.
Glancing over, Ava found that her taillight was indeed broken, hanging down with its wires exposed.
It had been fine when she left earlier today.
Ava turned her head to speak to the officer when she suddenly noticed that there was no license plate on the back of the officer's motorcycle.
She discreetly stole another glance at the officer and found him peering into her car through the window. His gaze was peculiar, not like a real officer inspecting a vehicle, but more like someone spying.
More importantly, there were no license plate on the officer's motorcycle.
Ava surreptitiously scanned her surroundings, finding no passing vehicles. With the darkening sky and dim streetlights, a sense of unease crept into her mind, but she managed to conceal any outward signs of concern.
At this moment, the officer moved closer. "See? Your light is broken. This can easily cause an accident. You need to come with me to the station to register and pay a fine. We have to impound your car."
"Really?" Ava fretted and requested "Can you skip the tow? I'll get it fixed right away when I get home. Can I pay the fine here?"
