Chapter 489 Critical Moment of Life
Dalton said, "When William woke up, he kept calling your name. However, he didn't recognize us. The doctor mentioned that with William's brain injury and the surgery, he might end up forgetting things."
Ava exclaimed, "So, does it mean that William has amnesia now?"
Dalton continued, "It seems like he just doesn't remember us, but he remembers you. The doctors said this situation is quite rare. It appears to be a form of emergency backup in the brain. William backed up the most crucial information he deemed. When the original was compromised, the backup took over. It seems that for William, you are that essential piece of information. Therefore, he has not forgotten you. He woke up calling your name."
Ava turned her head to look at William in the ward, his anxious demeanor evoking profound sympathy.
She could never have imagined that William would one day turn out this way.
"Did the doctor say whether he could recover his memory?" Ava asked.
Brandon said, "The doctor could not provide certainty either. The human brain is very complex, and unexpected things can happen sometimes. However, you don't need to worry. We should focus on the present now. William's memories may gradually return, or he may come to know us anew. Most importantly, his life has been saved."
Ava found solace in Brandon's words.
Indeed, William was waking up, which was more significant than anything else. As for the lost fragments of his memory, they could gradually return. After all, his family were still there. He could get to know them anew.
Ava didn't expect that William would forget everyone but her.
Was she so important to William? What did she do to deserve this? He had forgotten his family whom he knew for over twenty years, yet he had not forgotten her although their acquaintance was brief.
Furthermore, Ava believed she bore responsibility for his current state.
Vicky glanced at Brandon with a hint of unease in her eyes.
"Ava, are you okay? Are you still here?"
In the ward, William anxiously spoke up.
Ava had only left the ward for less than three minutes, and he was already anxious.
"I'm here." Ava hurried back into the ward, and the others followed.
"Ava." William reached out to her.
Ava held his hand. "William, I'm here. Don't worry. I won't leave."
William, uneasily glancing at the people behind Ava, sensed a significant pressure. In a hushed tone, he said to Ava, "I'd rather not have them around. Could you ask them to leave? I simply wish to be with you."
Ava said, "William, they are your family. They all care about you. You don't remember them now, but I believe you will gradually remember."
"But I can't remember now. Can you ask them to leave first?"
To William, at this moment, they were strangers. A group of unfamiliar people staring at him had caused great unease, especially considering he had only just awakened.
Besides Ava, he was unfamiliar with the whole world.
Vicky said, "Mom, Dad, Uncle, let's go out first. Let Ava stay here with him."
The place Ava held in William's heart had surpassed all expectations. Even when facing life and death situations, his thoughts were solely occupied by Ava.
