Chapter 694 Protecting One

All she could promise was to stay by his side; she couldn't give him anything else.

For William, she had many feelings: gratitude, being moved, guilt.

But her love had long since disappeared.

William closed his eyes in pain. Ava's silence had already told him the answer. All of this was within William's expectations, but it still felt unbearably painful.

He sighed softly, forcing himself to endure the heart-wrenching pain. "Alright, Ava, I won't force you to answer. You don't have to answer me, but I beg you, don't divorce me. I won't force you to do anything you don't want to do, but just this one thing, don't divorce me. I'll do anything for you as long as you don't divorce me, anything you ask of me.."

"William," Ava asked hoarsely, "Is this some kind of trade? If I agree to this, you'll promise to protect my child at a critical moment, right?"

"Yes, it's a trade if you want to see it that way."

Ava asked, "You want me to trade my marriage with you?"

"Ava, you can hate me, you can despise me, but I can't control myself. I'm going crazy. I don't know what else I can do to keep you. I love you too much. I can't bear not having you by my side. I, can't bear the thought of us divorcing one day. I might die."

In the end, he was almost choking on his words. His eyes were red, filled with pain and deep affection.

"William, is it really worth it? I don't want you in pain. There are so many good women out there who deserve your love and who will love you too, but I..."

"Don't say it, Ava," William covered her mouth again. "Don't say it. I won't listen. I just want to know if you're willing."

Ava pushed his hand away, shaking her head. "I don't know, I swear I don't know. William, don't force me."

"But you're forcing me too," William said angrily. "Ava, don't you know how cruel you are being? For the sake of the child in your belly, you're willing to risk your own life, and you're forcing me to agree. Isn't that cruel?"

"But this is my child," Ava said painfully. "I've already given up on Alexander. I can't give up on his child. I must ensure this child is born safely."

"I'm your husband!" William exclaimed. "My request is not unreasonable. I'm just asking you not to divorce me."

"Is this marriage that important to you?"

"Are you saying it's not important to you?" William laughed. "If it's not important to you, then you can totally stay married to me, right? And even if you divorce me, then what? Are you planning to get back together with Alexander?"

"No," Ava cried, "I never thought about getting back together with him, I just..."

William interrupted her, "Ava, you should understand, even if Alexander is still alive, there's no chance for you two because you gave him up. Can you really go back to him? If you divorce me, you'll hurt two men. Do you want both of us to be in unbearable pain? Ava, you have to protect at least one of us. You can't let both men suffer for you."

Ava remained silent for a long time.

Things had turned out this way, and they were all in pain.

If she had left earlier, things wouldn't have ended up like this.

In the end, her good intentions had only led to bad outcomes.
