Chapter 147 Bailed Out

Ava waited, her patience waning with each passing moment. Alexander was nowhere to be found. She had reached out to him, and he had assured her that he was on his way, almost there. Yet, as the minutes stretched into an hour, and then another, he remained absent. The agreed time had long since passed.

Ahead of her, a line of people filed toward the clerks, their faces etched with the grim determination of those seeking divorce. The clock was ticking, and if Alexander didn't arrive soon, the clerks would end their shift for the day.

As the hour neared four, and Alexander was still missing, Ava's frustration boiled over. His nonchalance towards their impending divorce was infuriating. She was on the verge of calling him again when her phone rang. The incoming call was from the police station.

With a sense of trepidation, she answered, "Hello?" Her face paled as she listened to the voice on the other end. "What? How could this happen?" she exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper. "Alright, got it," she said, ending the call.

William, who had been standing nearby, asked, "What's going on?" Ava felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her.

"Alexander was arrested for DUI. He's at the station. I need to bail him out," she explained.

"DUI?" A flicker of suspicion crossed William's face. "Don't worry, Ava. Which station? I'll drive you."

As William drove Ava to the police station where Alexander was being held, the clock was inching towards five.

Inside the detention center, Alexander leaned against the wall, one leg straight, the other bent. He looked oddly at ease, despite his predicament. Ava approached the holding cell, "Alexander, what's happened?"

Upon seeing Ava, Alexander managed a smile, "You're here." Despite this being his first offense, he carried himself like a seasoned offender.

"You..." Ava began, but was interrupted by an officer. "We have some paperwork that needs to be filled out." Ava was livid, but she had no choice but to follow the officer out of the cell.

She found herself swamped with paperwork, drafting affidavits, and paying fines. By the time she was done, it was almost five in the afternoon. The city hall would close in twenty minutes. Even if she managed to bail out Alexander right now, there was no way they could make it to the city hall in time.

Alexander's sentence was relatively lenient for a first-time offense with a low blood alcohol level: a three-month driver's license suspension and a fine. Ava managed to bail him out smoothly.

As they stepped into the lobby of the police station, Alexander caught Ava's fiery gaze. His face still bore the marks of his recklessness.

"Alexander, what were you thinking? If you'd been drinking, why didn't you let the driver drive? Look at the mess you've created. How are we supposed to get divorced now?" Ava's voice was laced with disappointment and frustration.

Alexander, the meticulous and punctual CEO of SK Corporation, had always handled everything with caution. Why had he become so careless and unreasonable lately?

"We'll just do it tomorrow morning," he suggested nonchalantly.

"Tomorrow morning," Ava scoffed, her voice icy. "Alexander, you..."

Before she could finish, her phone started ringing. She glanced at the screen – battery low – it was a call from the old lady. Ava knew why the old lady was calling, and although reluctant, she didn't want the old lady to worry, so she braced herself and answered.

"Hello, Grandma."

"Ava, the documents were sent over, weren't they?"

"Grandma, I got tied up today. Can I bring the documents to you myself tomorrow?"
