Chapter 531 Childless
Ava nodded. "He never mentioned it, but I'm sure it wasn't intentional. He rarely talks to me about his family. I only found out he had a sister when I met her."
She was afraid Brandon would be upset, so she explained.
Brandon took a sip of his coffee. "You don't have to rush to explain to me. It's okay. Whether William mentioned me to you or not, I don't really mind. Besides, you and he are married, so we were bound to meet sooner or later. Look, here we are now. It's not too late to get to know each other."
Ava politely smiled, "Indeed, before this moment, I was unaware of having such an uncle as you."
"Such an uncle as me?" Brandon inquired curiously, "How do you perceive me as an uncle?"
"I am aware of your esteemed stature and your usual understated demeanor."
Brandon said, "I'm not that remarkable, just a government worker. In fact, no matter how high the position, I'm still just a public servant. Only the titles differ."
Ava maintained her gracious smile.
Brandon's humility was truly remarkable; he was no ordinary civil servant. When he spoke, even the mayor must follow obediently.
"To William, I am merely his uncle. However, being childless myself, I regard William and Vicky as my own children."
Ava was a bit shocked. "Uncle, you haven't married?"
Brandon replied, "All these years, I've been busy with my career, so much so that I've delayed my personal life. Over time, I've gotten used to being alone. In this world of fame and fortune, being alone is safer. Once you have a family, it's easy to get entangled in various interests. Everything will be comlicated. Being alone is quite good."
Ava understood Brandon's point. However, hearing that he treated Vicky and William as his own children, she thought Dalton must also want children, but he didn't have any.
"Turning back to the conversation," Brandon continued, "I treat them as my own children, so naturally, I want to know more about their partners. That's why I wanted to talk to you alone today, to get to know you better. I don't know if you can understand? Maybe you think I'm just his uncle, not his father, and have no right to know about you, but that's okay."
"Of course not," Ava quickly explained, "I didn't mean that. What you said makes sense. I believe you've done a lot for William over the years. Vicky also respects you a lot."
"You are truly articulate. No wonder William likes you. You have a good temper and your ideas about things.
"Thank you." In fact, many times, Ava acted according to her heart without deliberately planning anything.
"Ava, were you adopted by the Mitchell family right after your parents' accident?"
In truth, Brandon was aware of her origins; he had indeed inquired about her background. Nevertheless, there was always a necessity to engage her in conversation.
Ava said, "I lived with my aunt for a year before being adopted by the Mitchell family."
"Why didn't your aunt continue to take care of you? After that incident, you should have received a lot of compensation, and your aunt also got that money."
