Chapter 86 Let Him Throw His Fit

The phrase "don't overthink it" pierced Ava's heart like a sharp arrow. The words, though simple, carried a veiled accusation, suggesting that she was being overly sensitive. Ava found herself questioning, was it truly her overthinking things?

"Alexander, am I the one overthinking, or are you simply being unreasonable?" she retorted. "You always do this, blindly siding with Isabella, as if I'm perpetually the liar and she's the embodiment of innocence! I just don't understand, what kind of spell has she cast on you?"

"Ava, stop slandering her. She hasn’t bewitched me. It's you who’s become so bitter and critical," Alexander countered. "You were the one who said you were unhappy with me, that you'd had enough. If that's the case, why does my relationship with Isabella bother you? What do you gain from causing her pain?"

Alexander found himself pondering, 'When she declared she'd had enough of our marriage, did she ever consider my feelings? Why is it that only she is allowed to feel wronged?'

Ava struggled to keep her rage at bay, reminding herself that she was carrying their child and needed to prioritize the baby's well-being.

"I'm sorry, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have hurt her," Ava conceded, gathering her clothes to depart.

The words she had once uttered in desperation had now become a weapon Alexander wielded against her at every opportunity, leaving her speechless and unable to defend herself.

Continuing the argument would only be a futile exercise."Hold it right there," Alexander commanded, gripping her wrist. "What's that supposed to mean? Leaving in the middle of our conversation?"

"Didn't I already apologize? What more do you want? She's innocent, okay! I was wrong to slander her. Are we good now?"

"Ava, don't talk to me with that tone. You're showing no sincerity!"

"What do you want from me? What does sincerity look like to you? Do you want me to get down on my knees and apologize to her right now, because I shouldn't have tarnished her reputation?"

This was too much!

She had been retreating again and again, but he was relentlessly cornering her.

"Is it so hard to speak respectfully? Did I ask you to kneel? Why do you have to make a simple matter so complex? It's just a bracelet. However I obtained it, it was a gift for you. Can't you just be rational?"

"Sorry, I just like to complicate things, unlike you guys who see everything in black and white."

The word "rational" dripped with sarcasm from her lips. Alexander, rational? He was clearly biased and he didn't care!

She wondered how rational he'd be if the roles were reversed, if a woman treated a man the way he was treating her, insisting everything be simplified.

Alexander's face twisted with irritation. He had been patient enough, but this girl kept pushing his limits...

He was about to retort when his phone rang.

Releasing her, he retrieved his phone and answered, "Hello?"

Ava, clutching her clothes, had reached the door when she heard Alexander's voice, filled with panic, "Isabella attempted suicide? I'm on my way right now!"

After changing into a comfortable outfit to rest, Alexander now hurried to his walk-in closet to change back into his clothes to leave.

As he passed Ava, he turned his head and said coldly, "Isabella tried to kill herself. Are you satisfied now?"

Holding her clothes tightly, Ava remained silent, watching as Alexander departed after dropping that bombshell, as if Isabella's suicide attempt was her fault.

Suddenly feeling a wave of unease, Ava quickly pulled out her phone and dialed Mia's number, "Mom, this is bad. Isabella attempted suicide."

On the other end, Mia's voice was calm, "She won't die."

"Alex seems really angry. Isabella will definitely try to pin this on us."

"Then let her. If Alex gets mad, then let him be mad. Remember my words, it's like dealing with a child throwing a tantrum. Don't get angry yourself, let them make a fuss. If you can't control it, just think of the baby you're carrying!"

"Mom, what if things get out of hand? Alex really cares about Isabella. It's no big deal to me, I'm divorcing him anyway. My worry is that if Alex blames you, then..."

"Then he can come and talk to me. I'm not afraid of him."

It seemed that everything was under Mia's control. She spoke dismissively, "I've got other things to handle. Remember what I said, let him throw his fit, and don't stoop to their level."
