Chapter 370 You're a Jerk
Alexander's fury was palpable, his words cutting through the air like a knife. "I suspect William is already privy to this information. Are you intentionally withholding it from me? What is it? If you refuse to divulge it, don't even consider leaving this place today!" He felt a sense of exclusion, as if Ava had shared secrets with everyone but him.
"What is this truth? Out with it!" Alexander's anger was barely contained, his breaths coming in short, rapid bursts, his heart pounding in rhythm with his rising temper.
Ava cast her gaze downward, her eyelashes fluttering nervously, a veil concealing the panic in her eyes.
William's words were laced with both anger and heartbreak. "Ava, you must tell him! He needs to understand the depth of his irresponsibility, how he has pushed you to the brink of despair!"
"William, silence!" Alexander's retort was fierce, his ire directed at the interloper. "This is a matter between Ava and me, you have no right to interfere!"
"I am her friend, not an outsider! It is you who are the outsider. You're divorced, not even friends, and certainly not some absurd notion of siblings." William's tone was dripping with sarcasm and anger. "You accuse me of meddling, yet what have you done for Ava? On that stormy day, Ava collapsed at the hospital entrance, and where were you? You were with Isabella. Had I not arrived in time, who knows what would have become of Ava? When she needed you the most, where were you?"
Ava's voice was laced with panic. "Will, please, stop!"
"Why should I? He needs to understand the kind of man he is!" William's tirade continued, "You were tender and caring with Isabella, but what about Ava? Where were you when she was ill? Where were you when she collapsed in the rain? Did you ever consider her feelings? You never truly cared for her, because your heart belongs to other women! You're not worthy of Ava! You can't provide her happiness, yet you married her. You're a despicable man!"
If it weren't for Ava's sake, William would have already landed a punch on Alexander. Even if it led to his incarceration, it wouldn't matter to William, as long as he could alleviate Ava's suffering.
But he knew that if he acted on his impulse, Ava would be the one to bear the brunt of the consequences. He couldn't bear to cause her any more pain.
His beloved Ava was being mistreated by Alexander, and he would not stand for it.
"Enough, stop talking, I beg you!" Ava's voice was barely a whisper, her body trembling as she sank to the ground, clutching her knees. "Please, don't say anything more, I'm begging you!"
"Ava," William's voice was filled with regret for his earlier outburst. 'But Alexander should hear these words,' he thought.
Alexander was initially incredulous at William's accusations, but seeing Ava crouched on the ground, trembling, he fell into a deep silence, his mind replaying numerous scenes.
On that fateful night, he had ignored Ava's protests and visited Isabella in the hospital. He was unaware that Ava had followed him.
Later, after being assaulted by Jaqueline, Ava had cared for him. It was then he discovered Ava had trailed him to the hospital that night.
He remembered the rain that day.
But Ava never mentioned that she had fainted in the rain, he was oblivious to it.
'Why did she faint?' he wondered.
Later, he even misunderstood that Ava had sought solace at William's house!
'Could it be that Ava fainted, fell ill, and William cared for her, which is why he took her home?' he thought.
And Alexander, as Ava's husband, was with another woman at the time.
He also misunderstood that Ava had sought comfort from William and unjustly berated her.
