Chapter 226 No More Goodbyes

A stormy frown darkened Alexander's face, as if a cloud had suddenly cast a shadow over a once clear sky.

Ava, sensing the simmering anger within the man, knew that if the conversation were to continue, it would inevitably lead to another argument. They were divorced now, and she couldn't fathom the purpose of Alexander's words.

"I've got some matters to attend to," Ava announced, her voice steady. "I think I'll see to them first. You can return alone."

With that, she rose from her seat, ready to leave.

However, Alexander swiftly reached out, his grip firm on her wrist. "What do you need to do?" he demanded.

Ava frowned, turning back to face him. "Will you release me?"

As his grip tightened, Ava gritted her teeth, anger flaring in her eyes. "We're divorced, Alexander. Stop this tugging and pulling. I'm not your wife anymore. You need to put an end to this absurd behavior!"

Silence fell between them.

"Nonsensical behavior?" Alexander's brows knotted in frustration at her words. "You're clearly avoiding me. What could you possibly have to do that's so important?"

"Why couldn't I have things to do?" Ava retorted, irritation seeping into her voice. "Do you think I'm supposed to be some decorative vase at home, never needing to step outside? Or do you think I'm completely useless?"

"So tell me, what do you have to do?" Alexander persisted.

"Look for a job!" Ava quickly fabricated an excuse. "I'm going to a job interview. Now, let me go!"

"Go work at SK Group," Alexander blurted out, his words laced with a sudden burst of anger and dominance.

His words ignited Ava's simmering fury like a spark to tinder. "Alexander, you're being absolutely unreasonable!" she exclaimed.

Her voice, shrill and piercing, drew the attention of passersby who paused to watch the unfolding spectacle. In her fury, Ava momentarily forgot about the watchful eyes around her. "We're divorced. Why do you still have to meddle in my affairs? Are you trying to drive me insane? What more do you want from me?"

Alexander's breathing became heavy, his chest rising and falling with intensity. "After the divorce, are you just going to sever ties with the Mitchell family? Just like that, after ten years, you're ending it without a second thought? What about Grandma's feelings? Don't you care at all about how she feels?"

"I know Grandma's feelings better than you do," Ava retorted. "I will handle things with her appropriately. As for you and me, we can't go back to how things were. I won't accept your baseless accusations anymore, and don't talk to me about those ten years! What does it matter? You were still all over Isabella. Did you ever, even for a day, treat me like your lover?"

Ava paused deliberately, but all she received in return was his silence.

He never did, not for a single day.

She had once harbored foolish hopes, but now she had awakened from that dream. The realization was painful, but at least it was real.

"Now that we're finally divorced, please, let's not meet again. Stop causing trouble for yourself! And don't forget about Isabella's situation. You should hurry up and marry her."

Met with her icy glare, Alexander felt not just anger but a deep chill, as if his entire heart had turned to ice.

Feeling his grip loosen, Ava managed to free herself from his grasp.

Just then, a car pulled up beside her. The window rolled down, and William leaned out. "Ava, where are you headed? I can give you a ride."
