Chapter 784 Acting On Her Own

In the hallway outside the ward, Mia saw George looking worried.

"She'll be okay," Mia reassured him.

George sighed. "Mia, I'm not lying. Mom really..."

"I know," Mia cut him off. "I believe you."

Scarlett had fainted right in front of her, so she had to believe it was serious.

Later, the doctor did a CT scan and an MRI on Scarlett.

When the results came in, the doctor pointed to the findings. "The patient's lateral ventricles are enlarged, and the frontal lobe shows signs of brain atrophy. The MRI also shows hippocampal atrophy."

George didn't fully understand the medical terms but got the gist.

"So, my mom really has Alzheimer's?"

The doctor nodded. "Based on these results, yes."

George slumped in his chair, overwhelmed. Mia wanted a divorce, and now his mom had Alzheimer's. It was too much.

Mia quickly supported him.

George looked at her, eyes misty, and gently patted her hand. "Thank you."

They left the doctor's office and headed to the ward.

Scarlett had just woken up and saw their worried faces. "What's wrong? Why do you both look so unhappy?"

George forced a smile. "Mom, you're in the hospital. How could we be happy?"

"I'm fine," Scarlett said. "I feel well now. Let's go home."

"Wait," George said, holding her down. "Stay a few more days for a thorough check-up."

"I'm fine. Nothing's wrong."

"Mom, please don't make us worry." George didn't feel comfortable letting Scarlett go home. Even with someone to care for her, it wasn't the same as being in the hospital.

If something happened at home, they might not get her to the hospital in time. At least in the hospital, medical staff were always around.

Seeing George and Mia's serious faces, Scarlett guessed something was up.

"I'm getting old, so it's normal to forget things. You don't need to worry so much."

"Mom, if you don't want us to worry, then stay in the hospital for a few more days. I'll be with you the whole time."

Mia added, "George and I will take turns taking care of you."

"How can I let you take care of me?" Scarlett said quickly. "I'll have a caregiver. You both have work to do."

"It's okay," Mia said. "I'm not busy these days, and George and I will take turns. It's better to have family close by."

Scarlett was touched by their care.

"By the way, where's Alexander? How is he? I haven't seen him in a long time."

"Alexander is doing well. I'll contact him now and ask him to come see you."

"It's okay," Mia said. "I know he's busy. Let him come when he's free."

Scarlett seemed to remember something and asked, "George, what do you think about Alexander and Ava getting married? I think they're a perfect match. What do you think?"

George and Mia exchanged a glance.

"Mom," Mia said, "It depends on their own thoughts. We can't decide for them."
