Chapter 54 Voicing Grievances

After Ava was wheeled out of the emergency room, she was in a daze. She seemed to hear someone talking beside her, but her eyelids were heavy.
Two hours later, Ava woke up from a nightmare.
She opened her eyes abruptly, frightened awake by a dream that she had lost her child. Her first reaction was to touch her belly.
"My child, my child!"
"Ava, the baby is fine." Amelia held her hand.
Ava turned her head and saw her best friend sitting by her bedside. When she heard her say that the baby was fine, she let out a sigh of relief.
"I'm sorry, baby; I'm sorry. I'm glad you're okay."
Amelia wiped her tears, "Don't cry, you showed signs of miscarriage, so you can't be emotionally agitated anymore. For the next few months, you must take good care of your body, rest in bed, have a balanced diet, don't run around, and definitely no strenuous exercise."
Ava nodded vigorously, "I know; I will rest well!"
With the baby safe, Ava breathed a sigh of relief, but her tears kept falling.
Suddenly, Ava saw a man walk into the ward and was somewhat surprised, "Mr. Bennett, what are you doing here?"
William placed some fruit on the bedside table, "You sounded very anxious on the phone, so I came to check on you."
"Ava, Mr. Bennett came over when you were in the emergency room. He was anxiously waiting outside the door. If I didn't know better, I would have thought he was your husband." Amelia said excitedly.
Ava stiffened, feeling somewhat awkward, "Amelia, don't talk nonsense, he is... he..."
Ava suddenly didn't know how to introduce William to Amelia. Saying he was a friend didn't seem intimate enough, but he wasn't a stranger either.
"I'm her friend." William stepped forward, "But we haven't known each other for long. What do you think, Miss Anderson?"
Ava nodded, "Yes."
She felt awkward as she thought about how she didn't know how to introduce William earlier; it was quite impolite.
Amelia whispered in her ear, "Why are all the guys around you handsome? Who do you think is more handsome, him or your husband?"
Upon hearing the word "husband," Ava felt a pang in her heart, and the tears that she had just managed to stop started falling again.
Amelia was startled, "What's wrong? Don't cry; what happened? Tell me."
She felt she must have upset Ava by mentioning Alexander. Something must have happened between them.
"I'll go for a walk and come back later." William could sense that the two best friends had something to say, and it was inconvenient for him, a man, to be there.
But he didn't go far; he just stood at the door. He could hear their voices clearly.
"Amelia, I'm divorcing Alexander. I can't let him know about this child; otherwise, he would definitely make me abort it!"
"Divorce? Why?" Amelia exclaimed in shock.
Ava told Amelia everything from beginning to end.
She had been bottling it up for a long time and now she could finally voice all her frustrations and grievances.
After listening, Amelia was both angry and upset, "That jerk is so outrageous! And that Isabella... She's shameless!"
"Ava, don't cry. A man like that is not worth your tears. You can find someone better! Now, just focus on the baby in your belly. Those two aren’t worth the heartache!"
"I know all that, but I... I'm in so much pain! Ten years... I've loved him for ten years. I was stupid to fall in love with a man I shouldn't have loved. If I didn't love him, none of this would have happened. He... he just doesn't love me!"
"Okay, sweetheart." Amelia held her in her arms and comforted her, "Anyway, you're going to divorce Alexander. Take the settlement and live a carefree life. There are plenty of men in the world. Mr. Bennett isn't bad either; I don't think he's any worse than Alexander. Look, he came over in the middle of the night because he was worried about you. There are plenty of good men out there. Don't hang yourself on a crooked tree; it's not worth it."
"Amelia, don't talk nonsense. There's nothing between Mr. Bennett and me; it's impossible!" Ava was very decisive.
"Is Mr. Bennett married?" Amelia asked curiously.
"This..." Ava shook her head, "I'm not sure about Mr. Bennett, but a man like him must have a girlfriend at least. He must be surrounded by many women. Anyway, don't talk nonsense, especially not in front of him; it would be very awkward."
"Alright, I got it." Amelia nodded and wiped Ava's face with a tissue, "But you have to promise me that you won’t cry anymore. There are many people who care about you; don't just focus on that jerk Alexander."
Ava nodded, "Hmm," she said, "I know, thank you."
Yes, there were many people who cared about her, so why should she focus on a man who didn't love her and constantly hurt her?
With Amelia's comfort, Ava's mood improved a lot. She knew she had to control her emotions, for fear of hurting the baby in her belly.
"Have some fruit." Amelia peeled a banana and fed it to her.
Ava didn't have much appetite for dinner tonight and didn't eat much. Now she was a bit hungry, and for the sake of the baby in her belly, she had to replenish her nutrition, so she obediently ate the banana that Amelia handed her.
