Chapter 202 Offline

Alexander held his ground, his voice resolute. "I will not back out. I made a promise to marry you, and I intend to keep it."

Isabella's voice wavered, choked by the tears that threatened to spill over. "And when will that be?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Please, don't tell me you're waiting until you find a heart and the surgery is successful."

Caught off guard, Alexander hesitated. The truth was, that was precisely his plan. However, now that Isabella had voiced it first, he found it challenging to admit his intentions.

Her voice trembled with a mixture of fear and anger. "Why are you silent? Is that what you're thinking?" As her tears flowed freely, she accused him, "Alex, I'm not a fool. I know the difficulty of waiting for a heart. I might die before it arrives. Are you stalling because you don't want to marry me? If that's the case, forget about the heart. I'd rather die than endure more of your empty promises!"

Overwhelmed by her anguish, Isabella turned her head away. "Alex, just leave. I don't want to see you anymore. Let me die alone. After all, it seems no one cares about how I feel in this lifetime."

Isabella was already a pitiful sight, and her illness only added to her heartbreaking condition. Alexander felt her pain acutely, a sharp pang in his own heart.

"Isabella, don't say such things. I do care about your feelings," he insisted.

Her voice was bitter. "If you truly cared, you wouldn't keep lying to me. I feel like a fool, trusting you blindly, only to be met with despair. If I had known, I would have preferred to die in the operating room."

Alexander's voice turned cold, his patience wearing thin. "Isabella, I won't allow you to talk like that. No more talk of dying."

She shot back defiantly, "You can keep promising to marry me, so why can't I talk about it? Alex, you've disappointed me so much. You won't marry me, you just won't..."

"I will marry you," Alexander stated firmly, his voice leaving no room for doubt. "This time, I promise I will marry you."

Isabella pressed him further. "Then give me a date. Don't talk about after my heart transplant surgery. We don't even know where the heart is yet. I'm tired of future promises. I want to see action now."

Cornered, Alexander felt the weight of his promises. "In a few days, once you're well enough to get out of bed, I'll marry you. I'll order your wedding dress today."

He could not afford to delay any longer. His heart ached with the fear that Isabella might not live to see their wedding day.

Isabella's eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope. "Really?"

"Of course. This time, I won't postpone it anymore. I'll give you a beautiful wedding and make you Mrs. Mitchell."

It was the only promise he could make to Isabella now.

"But... there's still someone occupying the position of Mrs. Mitchell," Isabella reminded him, her voice laced with disappointment. "You're still not divorced, are you?"

"I'll have the divorce finalized within two days. I won't make you wait. I promise you this, and if I'm lying, I will..."

Isabella interrupted him, her gaze softening with concern. "Don't make a vow," she pleaded. "I can't bear it."

Gently, Alexander removed her fingers from his lips. "Give me two days, and I'll be divorced. Okay?"

Isabella nodded, her voice barely audible. "Okay, I believe you. I'll wait for you for two days, Alex. If you haven't divorced by then, I won't be able to continue living."

...

Later, Alexander left Isabella's room, leaving her to rest in her exhausted slumber.

He sat in the lounge for a long time, lost in thought. Eventually, he took out his phone and dialed Ava's number.

However, her phone was consistently off.
