Chapter 635 Doesn't Like Her
In the car, Mia was on the phone with Alexander.
"I saw Ava today, and guess who else I saw? William."
"Mom, what did Ava say? Did she even hear you out?"
"Hear me out?" Mia snorted, "As if I I have any say. After all, I'm not her real mother. If I rashly ask her to leave William, you think she'd actually listen to me?"
"But William is not a good person. Did you warn Ava about how bad this situation could get?"
"It's only bad to you," Mia retorted. "To Ava, it's not that big a deal."
"Seriously? Isn't it a big deal though? William is that kind of person..."
"What kind of person is he?" Mia cut in, "Anyway, his feelings for Ava are genuine. He definitely wouldn't harm her. In that way, he's better than you. Just think about all the times you and Isabella have let Ava down."
"Mom, about Isabella and me..." At this point, Alexander suddenly stopped, not knowing what to say.
"What about you and Isabella? Can't find the words, can you? Ava told me that you and Isabella are getting married tomorrow. At this critical moment, you still want to marry her. It seems that Ava was right to leave you. Marrying William is indeed better than sticking with you."
"I know Ava won't come back to me. I want her to leave William, not because I think she'll be with me if William is gone, but because I'm afraid William might hurt her. As for Isabella, I've promised her many times that I would marry her. I can't go back on my word. I've also made it clear to her that I can only give her the title of Mrs. Mitchell. I've told her who I truly love in my heart."
Mia sighed, "Look, as your mother, I don't know what to tell you. Everything I say feels like it's falling on deaf ears. I won't help you win Ava back. You have to bear the consequences of your actions. And as for your mess with Isabella, you work it out yourself. I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm busy now. See you later."
Alexander wanted to say more, but Mia had already hung up the phone.
Isabella lifted her eyes to the mansion in front of her. She couldn't remember how long it had been since her last visit. The Harrington family had never liked her. Even when she hadn't come home, no one had bothered to look for her. From childhood to the present, she had existed within this household like a specter, unseen and unheard.
Her father, Josh Harrington, only favored her sister, Harper Harrington, and her brother, Peter Harrington, while she was neglected.
But no matter what, she was still a lady of the Harrington family and eventually rejoined the Harrington family.
The servants greeted her when they saw her, but Josh and Harper were not so welcoming.
"Look who's back?" Harper put down her coffee cup.
She was the eldest daughter of the Harrington family, Isabella's sister.
Josh looked Isabella up and down. "It's been almost two years, yet you still recall the way back home?"
As she came closer, Isabella responded, "So you do remember that I've been away for almost two years. Not a single call to check on me, and no one came looking for me."
Furrowing his brow, Josh questioned, "Are you blaming us for not caring about you?"
"Do you have any concern for me?" Isabella sneered, "I've never seen any of you care about me since I was a child. You probably wouldn't care if I died out there."
Harper slammed the cup in her hand down heavily. "Had you not borne the Harrington name, imprisonment might have been your fate by now. We didn't contact you and let you leave as our last act of mercy. Don't forget why you left home. That servant has been reduced to a vegetative state and remains in a hospital bed. Our family spent a lot of money to cover it up."
