Chapter 869 It's Too Unfair

The waiter plopped lunch down on the table.

Ava was juggling Sunny, making it a real pain to eat.

Seeing this, William chimed in, "Ava, lemme take Sunny. You dig in first."

"It's cool, I got him. Sunny's a chill baby."

Ava thought Sunny was all good, but outta nowhere, he started wailing in her arms, and she was clueless why.

Ava freaked out, thinking she might've hurt him.

"Sunny, what's up? Did I hurt you? Is this holdin' thing not comfy? How 'bout this?"

But no matter what she tried, Sunny kept bawling.

Seeing this, William ditched his knife and fork and rushed around the table.

"Ava, lemme take Sunny."

"It's fine, I can calm him down." Ava gently stroked Sunny's tiny face, "Sunny, c'mon, stop crying, okay?"

Ava's voice was all shaky and on the verge of tears herself. "It's okay, I'll calm him down, he'll be fine soon. I don't want you to calm him; I wanna do it myself. I'm his mom. Why does he cry as soon as I hold him? This ain't right," Ava said.

"Sunny, please stop crying, okay?"

William noticed Ava was about to lose it. He quickly leaned in and whispered, "Ava, everyone's watching. Can we talk about this at home? And it's not your fault. Babies cry for no reason. He cries with me too sometimes."

Ava turned her head, "Really?"

"Really, look, you were holding him before, and he was fine. Lemme try, okay?"

Ava nodded and handed Sunny over.

William took Sunny and started soothing him.

William handled Sunny like a pro, like he did this all the time.

Soon enough, Sunny stopped crying in his arms.

Ava let out a soft sigh, a wave of sadness washing over her.

Ava stood up, walked over to William and Sunny, and gently touched Sunny's cheek, saying sadly, "Am I a bad mom? Does Sunny not like me?"

"How could that be?" William said, "Don't think like that. Sunny's just a baby, they cry a lot. It's not your fault. You carried him for nine months and gave birth to him. That was already tough. Sunny will get it when he's older."

"Yeah, I carried him for nine months and gave birth to him, but after he was born, you did most of the work. I didn't do much. When he cried at night, I should've gotten up to soothe him, change his diaper, and feed him, but you did all that. Am I too irresponsible?"

"Ava, don't say that." William held Sunny with one hand and wrapped his other arm around her shoulder. "You went through so much to bring him into this world. After giving birth, you needed to rest. You're responsible for him; but since I'm here, let me help. You just need to rest and take care of Sunny when you're better. You risked your life to have him. That's already amazing. You can't do everything alone. That'd be too much."

He wiped Ava's tears, "Don't cry."

Ava said sadly, "But this is too unfair to you."
