Chapter 524 Learning to Let Go

Time machines only existed in fiction, and once missed, opportunities rarely knocked on the door twice. Reality was not a sci-fi drama, allowing for a chance to alter fate by traversing space and time. What had been done couldn't be undone. Once lost, it was lost forever.

Ava's eyes began to fill with tears. She raised her trembling hand, cautiously approaching his shoulder, wanting to comfort him. However, her fingers hovered a few centimeters away, and she pulled her hand back. "Don't be like this. It's all in the past now. Sometimes learning to let go is the only way to make yourself feel better."

Alexander took a deep breath, released the steering wheel, and sat up straight. His eyes were bloodshot as he turned his head and smiled faintly, though his smile was filled with despair. "Have you already let go?"

Ava nodded. "Yes, I have let go because there are more things in this world worth my attention."

For instance, the child within her womb, and those individuals who exhibited kindness towards her.

As soon as she finished speaking, Ava realized her words were a bit harsh. She quickly corrected herself, "I didn't mean that you aren't worth caring about."

"Do you still care about me?" Alexander asked, clinging to a sliver of hope. His humble appearance looked pitiful.

"I... I didn't mean that either." Ava felt a bit flustered. She tried hard to control her emotions and said, "I mean, there are many people in this world who care about you. Let's forget about what we've lost. Maybe it was never meant to be."

She had also been in great pain, feeling that she had lost Alexander, the love of her life. But she learned to let go. She never expected that Alexander would find it increasingly difficult to let go of their relationship.

Sometimes, when a relationship ended, men and women reacted differently. At first, men might feel relieved, as if they were finally free, while women felt like they were in unbearable pain.

But gradually, as time went on, men suddenly felt an emptiness around them, as if something were missing, and then the sadness followed, sometimes erupting suddenly at a certain moment.

However, after the initial heart-wrenching pain, women reached the peak of their suffering and then slowly returned to calm. They re-evaluated the relationship, and no matter whether it was right or wrong, they let it go.

"However, we're still sitting here, aren't we?" Alexander's eyes were filled with complex emotions. "Ava, could we still be friends?"

This was his only chance to stay close to her.

Ava smiled helplessly, "Alex, we couldn't be friends."

"Why? Because I hurt you?"

"Because we've known each other for almost eleven years, then became a couple. We went through so much together, and now we're divorced. Our relationship couldn't be like it used to be. So, we're neither husband and wife, friends, nor siblings, but we're not strangers either."

"Then what is our relationship now?" Alexander asked.

Ava thought for a moment and finally shook her head. "I don't know either. Maybe it's a relationship that's hard to define and even harder to sever."

Alexander lowered his head in disappointment. "Do you really want to keep your distance from me?"

"I used to," Ava said, "I wanted to stay far away from you and never see you again because you made me suffer. It was hard enough for me to stop feeling so sad, and then you came back to bother me, making me angry. But now..."

Ava paused and finally sighed. "Alex, let's not dwell on these questions, okay? No matter what our relationship is now, the past is behind us."

In fact, she wanted to say that she had a feeling they could never completely sever their ties. After all, she was already carrying his child. Their child would know of his existence, and he would know of the child's existence.
