Chapter 1227 No More Fuss
Hailey was shocked by Mandy's words; she didn't understand why Mandy suddenly changed her tune.
The police seemed confused as well. "Ms. Powell, is that so?"
"Of course, do you think I'm lying?" Mandy's eyes flashed with an undeniable assertiveness. "My subordinates got into a fight, and I'll punish them. You police have a lot on your plate, so you don't need to bother with such trivial matters."
The police officers exchanged glances, and then one of them spoke up, "We received a report. There are others here besides you. Where did they go?"
Mandy said, "They are my guests. My two bodyguards ended up like this, and I felt embarrassed to keep them here, so I let them go. Do you have any other questions?"
The police knew it couldn't be that simple, but since Mandy had said so, they couldn't press further, given Mandy's unusual status.
She probably didn't want to publicize the matter.
"Ms. Powell, if there are any other issues, you can contact us."
"Alright, I know. You guys should leave now. I'll have someone clean up here."
The police were thus dismissed by Mandy.
Hailey suddenly felt that Mandy seemed like a different person. "Mom, why did you say that to them just now?"
She hadn't expected Mandy to let the matter go and not have the police arrest Ava and that man.
Mandy was silent for a moment, then turned and said, "I let them go, and you're not happy? Wasn't it you who tearfully begged me to let them go? If you find it strange, I'll call the police back."
"No, that's not what I meant," Hailey quickly said. "Mom, I'm glad you didn't pursue the matter. I just didn't expect it."
Hailey hadn't expected Mandy to act this way. She thought Mandy would be relentless. She didn't think it was because of her that Mandy let Ava go; there must be another reason, but she wasn't sure what it was.
"Look at how happy you are, always siding with outsiders. I almost died."
"No, you wouldn't." Hailey took her arm. "I'll call someone to clean up. Let's leave quickly."
"By the way," Mandy asked, "how much do you know about that Ava?"
Hailey frowned at the question. "Mom, are you still planning to pursue this? Are you going to cause her trouble?"
"Hailey, whose daughter are you? Are you my biological daughter?" Mandy fell into self-doubt. How could she have given birth to a daughter who always sided with outsiders? She had always doted on Hailey, her only daughter. She had spoiled her.
Mandy asked, "Are you that afraid I'll cause her trouble? Do you know something?"
Hailey looked at Mandy in confusion. "What do you mean by that? Do you think I know something?"
"Hailey, I'm serious. How much do you know about Ava? Tell me."
"Mom, I..."
"I'm not going to cause her trouble. I'm just curious, I promise."
Hailey hesitated for a moment, then said, "I only know she is Alexander's ex-wife and a good friend of William's. They later got married. That's all I know. I don't even know much about William, let alone Ava. Mom, after everything that's happened, can we just let it go? That child probably isn't William's."
