Chapter 410 Numb with Pain
Mia's hands were flat on the table, fingers intertwined. "If you really want to avoid trouble, you should have married her in secret instead of having me and your father attend the wedding with your ex-wife as the bridesmaid."
Despite her bad temper, Mia was surprisingly patient with Alexander. Sometimes, the surface of the sea might seem calm, but there were strong undercurrents beneath.
"She could have chosen not to be a bridesmaid. I didn't force her. I presented a choice."
Ava clenched her fists upon hearing Alexander's indifferent tone. She couldn't stand being here for another second.
"Mom, I'll leave you two to talk."
"Wait." Mia turned her head. "We'll go back together later."
"But, Mom..."
"Sit down." Mia gestured to the chair beside her.
Ava furrowed her brow. "Sit down," Mia emphasized.
Ava sighed softly and took a seat. She didn't bother looking at Alexander and took out her phone from her pocket, intending to check if William had replied to her message. To her surprise, he had replied.
William: [Ava, let's meet up sometime.]
Ava immediately replied.
Ava: [You can come to my place now. I'll be back soon. Just enter the password directly.]
After sending her a message, Ava didn't receive a reply from William. She assumed he must be busy.
Mia spoke up, "Alexander, how about this? I'll never see Isabella, and I won't acknowledge her as a member of the Mitchell family and claim that she is your mistress. Or, I'll publicly humiliate her at the wedding, slapping her and calling her names, making her feel so ashamed."
Alexander's brows furrowed. "Mom, do you have to go to such extremes?"
"Extremes?" Mia laughed. "I'm just giving you a choice." Mia echoed Alexander's earlier words. "Just giving a choice."
Mia had never heard someone make the word "choice" sound so infuriating.
"Right, neither I nor your mother will attend," George said coldly.
Alexander's expression turned serious. "I just want to give her a normal wedding with both sets of parents present. I want her to feel blessed. Mom, Dad, I'm begging you. You can treat me however you want, but please attend this wedding."
Ava's lips trembled weakly.
She felt numb from the pain.
How much did Alexander love Isabella?
He had never begged anyone so desperately for her, not even once.
Indeed, there was a difference between loving someone and not.
He loved Isabella, so she was his everything, and he was willing to do anything for her, even if it meant debasing himself.
Mia suddenly stood up and approached to Alexander.
She looked at him in silence for a few seconds, then raised her hand and slapped him hard.
Ava had slapped him before, but this time, Mia's slap was even harder, causing his face to swell visibly.
Ava never expected Mia to hit Alexander, and George, too, was taken aback. He quickly stood up, "Mia..."
He wanted to say something, but he didn't know what.
Mia's hand trembled, clenched into a fist, and then dropped.
