Chapter 910 It's Already Over
"Hey William, thanks for looking after Sunny. Seriously, I owe you one," Ava said.
"Ah, don't sweat it. It's my job, right? I mean, I'm Sunny's dad," William replied.
Ava's smile got a bit awkward at that.
Sensing the silence, William asked, "Ava, still hung up on Alexander? You still want him to be Sunny's dad?"
Ava sighed, "William, it's done between Alexander and me. No need to worry about us getting back together. I promised you, didn't I? I was just super heartbroken before and said all that divorce stuff. Won't happen again."
"It's cool, Ava. I get it."
"William, let's leave it here for now. We'll chat more when I'm back. Gotta go."
"Alright, Ava," William said.
They both hung up.
Vincent took a sip of his drink, glanced over, and saw Ava staring blankly at the kitchen counter.
He raised an eyebrow and lazily leaned back on the sofa.
"You talk real politely to your hubby. Isn't it his job to take care of the kid? Unless the kid ain't his," Vincent said, hitting the nail on the head.
He was always sharp, never missed a thing.
Ava forced a smile, "The kid's my ex-husband's."
"Really?" Vincent asked, "How old?"
"Almost three months," Ava replied.
Vincent frowned slightly, "So, you married your current hubby while pregnant with your ex's kid?"
"That's my business," Ava's tone turned icy.
Her relationship with William was a mess, not just a simple marriage. But she didn't need to explain that to an outsider. She planned to leave after making this meal.
Ava picked up a knife and started chopping veggies.
The blade clashed against the cutting board, making a sound.
Vincent tapped his fingers lightly on the sofa and said slowly, "What did your ex do? Made you divorce him while pregnant and marry someone else?"
Ava didn't answer.
Vincent kept pushing, "Did he hit you?"
Ava didn't react.
Vincent went on, "Cheat on you?"
Ava's hand holding the knife paused.
Vincent raised an eyebrow, "So, he cheated on you."
Ava put down the knife, "Why do you think it must be my ex's fault? What if I was the one who cheated?"
"Because I'm a guy. I get guys. Most of us don't realize what we've got until it's gone," Vincent said coldly, with a sarcastic smile.
"Someone like you wouldn't cheat, only get hurt."
People who were too gentle and kind mostly ended up passively waiting for others to hurt them, then left heartbroken, never daring to look back.
Ava silently picked up the knife and continued chopping veggies.
After lunch was ready, Ava placed the dishes on the table.
The dishes weren't exactly a feast for the eyes, but they looked decent and smelled pretty good, giving off a homely vibe.
Vincent hadn't felt this way in a long time. His surroundings had always been cold, without a trace of life.
"Thanks for the effort. Let's eat together," Vincent said, pulling out a chair and sitting down.
Ava sat across from him.
"You look much better," Ava said.
Vincent had recovered faster than she expected. It seemed that being physically strong did make a difference.
"Did you talk to me last night while I was asleep?" Vincent asked, taking a bite of the food and looking up at her.
