Chapter 786 Missed Opportunity

Alexander saw Mia stop him and asked, "Mom, what's up?"

"You were avoiding her before. Why call her now?"

"Things are different. Grandma's in trouble; she needs to know."

Deep down, he still wanted to see her. No matter how she treated him, even if she didn't forgive him or chose William, he missed her.

Mia knew Alexander just wanted to see Ava.

Ava had just had surgery. If she found out what happened to Scarlett, she wouldn't handle it well, and it wouldn't be good for her or the baby.

But she couldn't tell Alexander this. If he knew Ava was pregnant and missed so much, including her surgery, he'd be crushed.

She also worried that if Alexander found out Ava was pregnant, things would get even messier with her two sons and Ava, plus her relationship with Dalton and George.

The situation was already chaotic enough.

"Mom, what's wrong? Do you have something to say?"

"Yes," Mia said. "I'll contact Ava, but you can't."

"Why?" George asked, instead of Alexander, puzzled.

Mia didn't answer George but spoke directly to Alexander, "Do you think there's still a chance between you and Ava?"

Alexander gripped his phone tightly, holding back his anger. "Grandma's situation has nothing to do with this."

"It does," Mia said. "If you call Ava here, with Grandma's dementia and your complicated relationship, any mishap could lead to an argument. If she sees you two arguing, what will she think?"

Alexander was silent for a moment before speaking, "But we have to let Ava know. If we keep this from her, she'll be very angry later."

Mia said, "I'll tell Ava, but you two shouldn't meet. After you see Grandma, you should leave, and then Ava can come. This way, there won't be any conflict, and Grandma won't know about your issues."

"Mom, you don't want me to see Ava? I can control my emotions; I won't cause any conflict."

Alexander felt strongly about this.

"No," Mia said. "You can't guarantee you and Ava will stay calm. Even with dementia, Grandma is sharp. She can sense something from just a look between you and Ava. Do you want to worry her?"

Mia made sense, but Alexander felt something was off, though he couldn't argue.

Considering what had happened between him and Ava, he realized nothing would change even if they met. Ava probably didn't want to see him either.

He waited for her all day that day, and she didn't show up. He was desperate.

Since Ava didn't want to see him, he wouldn't bother her anymore.

"I understand, Mom. You contact Ava and let her come over. I'll leave."

Alexander sighed.

Mia breathed a sigh of relief.

She felt a bit guilty. On one hand, she worried about Ava's health; on the other, she didn't want Alexander to see her.

She knew Ava was pregnant, and so did Scarlett.

She wouldn't say anything, and Scarlett, with her dementia, didn't remember that Alexander and Ava were married, let alone that Ava was pregnant.

Mia felt that even fate wasn't helping Alexander. He and Ava always missed each other.

The more they missed each other, the more it proved they might not be meant to be together.

They had such a good chance once. They grew up together, became a couple, and were together for almost eleven years, but now it had come to this.

Once a chance is missed, it's gone forever.
