Chapter 738 My Child
Dalton stared at William, completely floored.
"Are you nuts? You're really gonna die with her?" he asked, incredulous.
"Yeah, if she goes, I go," William replied, dead serious.
Ava was his everything now.
Dalton pointed at him, fuming. "There are plenty of women out there, why..."
Before he could finish, he felt a cold, piercing gaze. He turned and saw Mia, eyes bloodshot.
Mia slapped Dalton hard.
Her eyes burned with hate and resentment.
William was stunned. "It's one thing to hit me, but you slapped my dad? Are you crazy? Don't think just because you have the Mitchell family's backing, the Bennett family is scared of you! You've crossed a line."
Mia shot back, "You're all the same. You talk sweet, but to you, women are just replaceable. You think it doesn't matter if a woman dies."
She wiped her tears and declared, "But let me tell you, if Ava dies, no one in the Bennett family will have it easy."
She turned and stormed off.
Staying any longer would make her lose it completely.
William looked at Dalton; it was the first time he saw him get hit.
Mia actually dared to hit Dalton.
But he didn't seem that mad.
In his eyes, William saw a mix of loss and guilt.
"Dad, you okay?" William asked.
Dalton seemed out of it.
"Dad, do you know Mia?" William pressed, confused.
'Why do I feel there's some weird connection between Dalton and Mia?' William thought.
"William, don't blame her. She doesn't know anything," Dalton sighed.
William frowned. "Why are you defending her? She hit you too."
Dalton didn't answer and walked off in the direction Mia had gone.
"Dad." William wanted to follow, but Ava was still in surgery. He had to stay and could only watch him go.
Dalton quickly caught up with Mia.
She was in the hospital parking lot, about to get in her car when Dalton grabbed her arm. "Mia, wait."
"Let go of me!"
Mia shook off his hand, shouting, "Don't touch me!"
Seeing the fierce look in her eyes, Dalton felt a surge of emotion. "I need to talk to you."
"I don't want to hear it, get lost!" Mia's voice was ice cold.
She turned to leave.
But Dalton grabbed her and dragged her into his car.
"Let go of me," Mia yelled.
The car door closed and locked.
Mia glared at him. "Dalton, what do you want?"
"I just want you to calm down. I need to talk to you," Dalton said.
"I don't want to hear it. Let me out, or I'll call the cops!" Mia snapped.
Dalton ignored her and drove off.
Mia pulled out her phone to call the police.
"Do you remember our child?" Dalton suddenly said.
Mia had just dialed 911, but when she heard "child," her finger froze.
Dalton continued, "You never even got to see him."
Mia gripped her phone tightly.
At the mention of that child, her tears fell like a broken string of pearls.
She screamed at him, "What right do you have to mention my child!"
"He was my child too," Dalton said, gripping the steering wheel. "He was our child."
