Chapter 995 I'll Hold Him Off
"Yeah, that's what I thought at first," Madison said, her voice icy. "You did something awful, and I hated you for it. I wanted you locked up in Stellaria. But then I thought it through. If you go to prison, Ava's single again, and Alexander would have every reason to get back with her and ditch me. So, after a lot of thinking, I decided you shouldn't go to prison. You should stay with Ava forever, so Alexander won't have a chance to get back with her. So, it's not really for your good, it's for mine."
On the other end, William was silent for a long time. Madison's words made sense, but William was naturally suspicious and couldn't fully trust her. "Why should I believe you? If this is a trap, I'd be walking right into it."
"You don't have to believe me," Madison said. "Anyway, as soon as Alexander leaves the hospital, he's handing over the evidence to the police and cooperating with the investigation. I'll testify too. Alexander's got the best lawyer to put you away. If you don't believe me, just wait for the cops to come and get you."
William was silent again, and Madison could hear his rapid breathing.
After a long pause, William spoke through gritted teeth, "Madison, if you're lying to me, I won't let you off."
Madison said, "Mr. Bennett, let me remind you, that means you're indirectly pushing Alexander and Ava together. We may hate each other, but we can help each other. With you by Ava's side, Alexander can't be with her. And with me by Alexander's side, I can keep him away from Ava. So we can work together to keep our loved ones. If you insist on going against me, there's nothing I can do. But I believe you won't be that foolish."
William mocked, "Madison, I didn't expect you to be so cunning. You look so weak, but you're actually very sly."
Madison chuckled, "Mr. Bennett, we're quite alike. After all, my tricks are no match to yours. You and Ava even have a kid together. Alexander and I don't have a child yet, but that's my next plan. I need to stay safe to achieve that plan, don't I?"
William warned, "Madison, you'd better be able to keep Alexander away from Ava. I'm quite curious about how capable you really are."
Madison replied, "My capabilities are far beyond what you think, Mr. Bennett. If I were you, I'd be figuring out a plan right now. Otherwise, if the police catch you, it's all over."
William retorted, "That's none of your concern. I'll handle it, Ms. Allen. Thank you, and who knows, maybe we'll be good friends in the future."
"Being friends with you? No, thanks," Madison said. "But partners, maybe."
Just then, Madison heard footsteps outside the door and said, "Mr. Bennett, I have to go. You'd better come up with a plan. I'll try to hold him off from handing over the evidence."
With that, Madison hung up the phone.
Alexander had finished his check-up and walked in, now waiting for the results.
"Alexander, you're back," Madison said.
Alexander smiled gently at her and sat by the bed. "Madison, I just finished the check-up. Now we just wait for the results."
