Chapter 435 The Jerk Ex-Husband
Originally, Alexander wanted to quietly pick out a ring and leave. However, encountering such blatant provocation, he placed the ring on the glass counter.
"It's William. What a coincidence."
"Yeah, quite a coincidence," William said coldly, "Who are you picking the ring for here?"
It was obvious that it had something to do with Isabella.
Alexander said indifferently, "What's it to you?"
Ava felt awkward and lightly tugged on William's sleeve. "I need to go to the restroom."
William was concerned about Ava and said, "I'll accompany you."
He escorted Ava away.
Vicky stood bewildered in place, still holding the ring, looking utterly confused.
What on earth was going on?
Vicky walked towards Alexander. "Hey, handsome, do you know William?"
"Your brother?" Alexander asked, "He's your brother?"
Vicky nodded. "Yeah, William is my brother. What's your relationship with him?"
"Since he's your brother, didn't he tell you who I am?"
Vicky shook her head. "No, it's my first time seeing you, but you seem familiar. Have you been in the news?"
Alexander said coldly, "What's your relationship with Ava?"
"I'm friends with Ava. Why do you mention Ava so seriously..."
Suddenly, Vicky realized something. Her eyes widened in shock as she looked at him. "You're not Ava's jerk ex-husband, are you?"
Upon hearing her description of him as a jerk ex-husband, Alexander frowned.
"Ava told you her ex-husband is a jerk?"
Did Ava badmouth him like that?
"Do I need her to tell me?" Vicky initially found Alexander handsome, her eyes lit up, only to realize he was Ava's ex-husband. Since he was a jerk, she lost her temper.
"She doesn't even want to mention you. You must be a jerk, making her sad and miserable. I didn't expect you to look still handsome. William was right. Being handsome is useless. You're still a scumbag."
A sharp glint passed through Alexander's cold eyes, like a chilling wind blowing by.
Vicky suddenly felt a shiver and a sense of unease creeping in, and took a few steps back.
There was something about Alexander that made her inexplicably afraid.
But the thought of standing up for her good friend made Vicky gathered her courage and said, "It's good that Ava divorced you. She now..."
"Vicky." a reprimanding voice came.
William walked over, pulling Vicky aside. "What did you say to him?"
Vicky was prone to leaking secrets.William was worried she might spill about Ava's pregnancy.
"William, I feel sorry for Ava."
"Don't say anything more to him." William led Vicky away.
Alexander didn't follow, but his gaze was ominously dark.
After Ava came out of the restroom, she looked visibly upset.
William and Vicky were waiting outside for her. Upon seeing Ava, they hurried over.
"Ava, are you okay?"
Ava shook her head. "I'm fine."
"Let me take you back." William knew encountering Alexander here was painful for her.
Ava smiled. "It's fine. Let's just buy the ring first, and don't mind others."
When she referred to others, she was speaking of Alexander.
"Indeed, why concern ourselves with the affairs of others," Vicky remarked as she linked arms with Ava. "This mall isn't managed by the likes of Alexander. Why bother about his presence or absence? Let's enjoy our time here without allowing our mood to be swayed."
Ava nodded. "Okay."
They continued shopping.
Understanding William's desire to be alone with Ava, Vicky realized her presence might hinder their interaction. Sensing the opportune moment, Vicky gracefully excused herself, citing an urgent matter that required her departure.
After Vicky left, William spent some more time with Ava, bought her some things, and finalized the ring.
Ava put the ring on her finger. The ring was just a tool with no other meaning because of the fake marriage. At least, that was how she saw it.
William carried the other items for Ava, following behind.
"William, I want to go back to my place and pack some things."
"What do you need?" William asked, "I can buy it for you."
"I have everything. Buying more is wasteful. I'll be staying at your place for a while, so I need to go back to my place, pack up, and turn off the power."
William nodded. "Right, I'll take you back."
They left the mall. However, halfway through, William received a call about an urgent matter at work, so he had to go.
However, he still dropped Ava off at her place.
Ava urged him to leave and attend to his work, and she said she would wait for him after finishing up at home.
William repeatedly reminded her not to move anything heavy, and he would hurry back to help her.
After entering the house, Ava glanced at the ring on her ring finger and sighed.
It didn't matter. She wasn't planning to marry anyone else, so helping out a friend was no big deal.
After tidying up for about ten minutes, Ava suddenly heard the doorbell.
She immediately set down what she was holding and went to open the door.
"William, you're back so soon..."
However, as the door opened, she froze upon seeing the man outside. "Alexander, what are you doing here?"
