Chapter 562 Interrogation On The Spot
"Ava, Ava?" William became worried when he couldn't hear her voice anymore.
"I'm here," Ava hurriedly said, "I'll try to get back as soon as possible; don't worry about me."
"Alright, dear. I'll be good."
William's voice, so pleasant and obedient, was heartwarming.
It was often said that crying children get milk, while sensible children don't, always coming last. But Ava now felt more heartache for this "obedient child", William, while finding Alexander, the troublesome "younger son", annoying.
Ava found herself both exasperated by him and obligated to tend to him. After all, she still wanted to consider Scarlett's feelings.
"Well, I need to get off the phone for now. You rest well. Call me if you need anything."
William nodded. "Okay, dear."
After hanging up the phone, Ava walked towards a chair. She was about to sit down, when suddenly she saw someone in front of her. It was Vicky standing in high heels, looking serious.
Ava was very surprised to see her. "Vicky, what are you doing here?"
"Do you not want to see me?" Vicky asked.
Seeing Vicky's serious expression, Ava spoke, "What I mean is, I don't understand why I would meet you here. Is it a coincidence? Or..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Ava knew for sure it wasn't a coincidence. "Vicky, did you follow me?"
"Why did you lie to me?" Vicky asked with a furrowed brow.
"What did I lie to you about?" Ava retorted.
"You told me you were going to the wedding alone. However, why did I see you with Alexander? Does William know you went to the wedding with Alexander? He definitely doesn't know; you lied to him, too!"
"Vicky, do you want me to tell William that I went to the wedding with Alexander? You know very well about his current situation!" Ava said.
"So you can be with Alexander," Vicky accused.
"No. I just went to the wedding with him," Ava replied.
"Then why did you have to go to the wedding with him?" Vicky pressed on.
Facing Vicky's aggressive questioning, Ava was a bit angry. "I know I lied to you, but I did it to avoid unnecessary trouble. If I told you I was going to the wedding with Alexander, you would worry for sure, so I didn't say anything. The reason I went to the wedding with him is because that person is Grandma's friend; they don't know that Alexander and I are divorced; we were just pretending to be a couple to consider her feelings."
"You're already divorced. Why do you still care about your ex-husband's grandmother's feelings? In modern times, isn't divorce very normal? It's not something to hide," Vicky challenged.
"Even though you think so, she doesn't think that way," Ava replied.
Vicky asked again, "If that's the case, why are you so close to Alexander? Don't forget you're still William's wife. Is what you're doing really appropriate?"
"How am I close to him? I've made it very clear to you that he drank too much and had a stomachache; I took him to the hospital; how is any of this inappropriate? If we're going to talk about appropriateness, is it appropriate for you to secretly follow me? Is it appropriate for you to come here and interrogate me? Remember, my marriage with William isn't real. What grounds do you have to question me?"
If Vicky had spoken to her nicely, Ava would have patiently explained to her and not gotten angry. However, Vicky insisted on talking as if she had done something wrong, as if catching her in the act.
